Tigaaaaaazzz on pace for 4 All Stars this year:

Cabby (1st in WAR in AL at 1B and #2 overall in WPA)
Verlander (#9 in WAR, No hitter, name recognition)
Scherzer (6-0, yeah that stat matters to people)
Avila (#2 hitting catcher in AL, leads in HR and RBI)

For the Tigers fans: Brennan Boesch has improved in every peripheral stat over 2010:

BB% +
K% -
GB% -
LD% +
FB% +
IFFB% -

His ISO is down, but that is partially due to an unlucky 4.8% HR/FB rate.

Insert a bunch of words and that's a fangraphs article right? Where do I sign up?

Yeah, that's a hitting streak, and yes, it's not a measure of say, who's the greatest of all time, just a cool record that requires massive amounts of luck and skill, like hitting 4 HR in a game or something. It's a cool record to have and it would be a big deal if it was broken just for the unlikeliness of it.

lol pretty much!

Boesch's success has mostly come from changing his approach so he has a little more patience. The reason for those stats are that he's swinging at less pitches outside the zone (inside too) to make sure he hits his pitch.

I've been annoyed that he's going to left field a lot though.... think that's why his HR rate has been low.

Great matchup tonight with Johnson and Halladay facing each other. Also pumped about the Rays-Indians series starting. Exciting baseball season so far in FLA

solid first inning for home plate ump paul emmel

1) charge the mound after the pitcher yells out something in frustration after walking in a run on a pitch that wasn't close.
2) later in the same half inning, on an 0-2 count, give a strike out fist pump and then call "ball"
