MLB OFFSEASON 2019-2000 MLB OFFSEASON 2019-2000

In the past 5 years, Chase Utley tried to break a Mets player's leg while with the Doyer. The Cards hacked into another team's computer system. The Bosox and Yanks used Apple watches to relay stolen signs. But some guy who is 5 foot nothing and 100 and nothing listening to someone bang a trash can makes him a piece of ****.

That is funny, but not as funny as the Dodgers continually having the best NL record and largest payroll only to not be able to seal the deal.

Teams should have a signal this season for when they'll decide to go at Astros hitters. One bang on the trash can they throw at the batter and two bangs they throw at the Astro in the on deck circle. Do that for the first two weeks of the season and then occasionally bang on a trash can the rest of the season to mess with their heads and get them diving out of the box.

Does anyone in the Astros PR department still have their job? If so, why? Multiple absolute trainwreck moments from them in the past few months

The Yanks and Bosox get a pass for using Apple watch vibrate though. At least the Astros kept it simple.

I read an interesting fangraphs article, and their analysis came to the conclusion that the trash can scheme was worth ZERO runs in EV. Some guys actually performed worse with the banging. Also, they didn't seem to bang more often in high leverage situations. They'd bang in the middle of a blowout in June.

Nobody actually thinks that Altuve doesn’t take HGH or some type of PED, do they?

Making no attempt to go for the bag and breaking a guy's leg is wrong.

Utley could’ve reached the bag and it was a pretty standard takeout slide in the Takeout Slide Era. It’s not his fault that Tejada didn’t drink his milk and take his vitamins. Meanwhile Altuve literally should be a horse jockey and he’s hitting walkoff bombs off Aroldis Chapman somehow, there’s no way there could be shenanigans here, right?

All star position player (not pitcher!) Whit Merrifield had the best take today:

Quote:
I know what MLB’s report came out and said, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t doing it last year or 2018,” Merrifield said. “As baseball players, we’re a fraternity. We know people throughout the league. We talk. We know they’ve been doing it for years.

The ripple effect of what they were doing is tremendous. It cost people jobs. It cost people opportunities in this game. It cost people millions of dollars, and it cost people a chance at experiencing world championships. It’s disgusting what they did. It discredits that everything those players have ever done in my opinion and in a lot of people’s opinion that I’ve talked to.
Went on to elaborate a bit on the 17 team and if the cheating taints it.

Quote:
It definitely did because they didn’t feel like they could do it by going out and playing the game,” Merrifield said. “They felt like they had to get an advantage to win the championship. So if they don’t think they could have won it, why should we think they could’ve won it in 2017. It’s just next-level of conniving to go about it that way.

As for the "just play ball" crowd: These comments today aren't from reporters just trying to spin news while in the offseason. These are things actual players in the league are saying.
