So Mookie's XBHs go way down and Verdugo's go way up. With good odds would almost bet Verdugo to have more than Mookie (but not sure he'll get the at-bats). Verdugo may even out hit Mookie over the next 5 years.

How much of the Price contract did the Sox get out from?

Verdugo is a contact hitter with power. Good fielder and great arm.

The few times he came up he raked.

Bank teller was a friend of mine. Super cute, she’s a dodger fan, went to LA and verdugo pulled her aside after a game to hit her up (he was a call up at the time. And married I believe)

Anyway he slid into her DM’s and they were chatting and one weekend she was gonna go to Vegas on his dime to see her

And me being a giants fan of rebuilt self esteem and marginal attractiveness since losing weight, I decided to slide into her. Verdugo was texting her the night we were together. I tried to get her to FaceTime him while I was ****ing her. Didn’t work

Not gonna lie, she sent me a pic of her and verdugo at a club that weekend and it made me really ****ing happy to know some thirsty dodger was getting my sloppy seconds

Anyway, enjoy watching that guy, inferno

The Red Sox crushed this trade. Got rid of an albatross contract and a washed up pitcher that you're almost obligated to pitch in October because of the contract. And flipped a great player they were (rightfully) never giving $400m+ to for a really good outfielder and a big time pitching prospect.

This makes the Dodgers a much much better regular season team, but they were always winning the regular season anyway. Not sure how much this moves the needle in the postseason for them, especially if actually pitch Price in a playoff series. Obv I'm not saying Betts isn't great but I don't think offense has been their problem and I'd much rather Maeda than Price

I am not sure if I would ever want my team signing anyone for $250M+

Like how good is Mookie Betts realistically going to be at age 35+

It's a good way to level the playing field. Yankees are stuck with a huge contract pitcher for almost a decade, which will not end well. Pujol and Trout will handicap the Angels for quite a while. Doyers and Red Sox get boned by Price. It's all good.

Pretty disappointed. I get that they were never signing him, but I was hoping to enjoy him for one more year. There's a lot of hatred of ownership going around Boston fans because they won't give him $400m. But we excoriate these same front offices for giving guys way too much money and it feels like a double standard. I understand Betts is the second best player in baseball, and I understand that Henry and co COULD afford to pay him what he wants, but I'm finding hard to get too bent out of shape that they don't feel like shelling out that kind of money.

I hope Betts gets paid. I hope he has a successful HOF career. He owes us nothing and it was a joy watching him play. I go to very few games but I was at his 3 HR game against KC and it's a memory I'll never forget. It's been a blast Mook. Get that money.

Do the Angels really need the handicap?

They have played in 3 playoff games with Trout.

Peter Gammons is on his last leg of life, so he may not want to get too entangled in this, but:

Gammons relayed a conversation he had with former MLB outfielder Chris Young. “He told me, ‘Kind of my idea. I showed (the Red Sox) the whole Apple watch thing. I got it from the Yankees.’ Nobody was telling them no at the time.

you guys realize that Betts is the next best thing to Mike Trout, right? If there's anyone out there to give $250MM to it would be him. It doesn't matter how good he is at age 35 because that's not how giant contracts signed at age 27 work.

I agree that most big contracts are a mistake, but there are exceptions - such as Trout. LOL at him handicapping the Angels - every team would snap take him on that contract and offer a ton of prospects/young players for the privilege of carrying that burden.

Betts is another one. He'll be 28 and hasn't had a season below 6 WAR since 2014 (when it was 5.9). Compare that to guys like to guys like Harper. Machado, Stanton, etc. and it's clear he's in another tier. Those were bad contracts, but I'd happily give Betts 10/350 (and likely a decent bit more) and deal with the bad years 7-10 when I have to.

According to fangraphs, his down year last year was still worth $53 million. So even if you only get 4 years of his prime followed by a decline, that's worth the big contract.

Giancarlo Stanton broke LFC so you have to take his opinions on contracts with a grain of salt.

Wasn't the consensus itt last season that the Harper and Machado contracts were no brainers for the teams and money well spent?
