These are the ballots that make tracking each ballot reveal fun.

Trying to get into their head is just impossible:

Bagwell is no longer first ballot, but he thinks he deserves to be in. Rock needs to get in before he loses eligibility. Pudge is definitely a first balloter. Sheffield has waited a long time and has always been strong. Everybody else did roids, is too early in their candidacy, or not qualified.

It is more in the color coding.

Last year he voted: Bagwell, Raines, Hoffman, Mussina (and lets assume Piazza & Griffey).

This year: Bagwell, Raines, Pudge, removed Hoffman and Mussina and added Sheffield.

OK?

He also had Schilling on his ballot in 2014 but removed in 2015 and was a Jack Morris voter in 2014 among his 4 votes that year.

Pretty amazing voter IMO

If you guys care a lot about Hall of Fame voting and stuff, you should really be reading Joe Posnanski's fantastic blog.

He's a BBWAA voter, writer, and blogger, one of the best sportswriters ever. He makes it his mission to be as transparent with his thought processes, and above all, tell the narrative.

He's doing a countdown of the people on the ballot, 1. Bonds to 34. Arthur Rhodes, and I really wish he'd finish his top 100 all-time (did about 70 and hasn't finished the top 30 or so).

Voting Sheffield but not Bonds or Clemens is indefensible. All three are proven steroids users, and Sheffield is the worst of the three and has been on the ballot the shortest. (not sure what you mean by "long time" for Sheffield as its only his 3rd year on ballot).

Think Bagwell, Pudge and Raines are comfortably in, but i woulnd't be surprised if that was it.
Vlad has steadily hovered right at or slightly above 75%. I don't see any reason why he won't stay there.

Not interested in buying out though.

Because the public ballots are usually better overall ballots. They have more players voted for on average.

Of the returnees on the ballot, they averaged -5.2% difference in public vs. private ballots.

The only positive were - Hoffman: 2.8%, McGriff: 5.3%, Lee Smith: 8.4%, Billy Wagner: 3.7%

Removing them since he isn't a closer (unless he is somehow McGriff-like), that % drops to -9.0%

Even for players who made it last year:
Griffey: -2.3%
Piazza: -5.3%

How Mike Trout Could Legally Become a Free Agent

Quote:
A relatively obscure provision under California law — specifically, Section 2855 of the California Labor Code — limits all personal services contracts (i.e., employment contracts) in the state to a maximum length of seven years. In other words, this means that if an individual were to sign an employment contract in California lasting eight or more years, then at the conclusion of the seventh year the employee would be free to choose to either continue to honor the agreement, or else opt out and seek employment elsewhere.
...
Perhaps most significantly, California courts have applied the provision to cases in which an employee was bound by a series of one-year renewable option contracts cumulatively extending eight or more years. Put differently, Section 2855 does not just apply to a single contract lasting more than seven years, but applies whenever an employer has a contractual right to its worker’s services for a total of eight or more years, even if transpiring under a series of multiple contracts.

This interpretation could have a significant impact on professional baseball. Under current MLB rules, teams potentially control their players for a total of up to 13 years – seven in the minor leagues, and six in the major leagues – before the player will receive the right to free agency. In theory, then, Section 2855 could allow any player employed by a California franchise to opt-out after spending seven seasons in the organization, across both the major- and minor-league levels.
...
At least one California court – in a case involving boxer Oscar De La Hoya – has held that employees may opt-out of a contract under California law even in the middle of a voluntarily signed contract extension.

I dunno off the top of my head who his agent is, but I imagine if he [agent] tried something like that he would be instantly blacklisted by every major league team. Trout would have to dump his agent and do it himself

That article was likely written by some kid in his 2nd year of law school, who had some free time over chanukah break, and thinks he is smarter than everyone else.

Mike Trout wouldn't do that, because Mike Trout wouldn't make another dollar playing baseball. The owners would blacklist him so fast, they all know the game is bigger than one individual player, and they would definitely not allow that precedent to be set.
