Great idea because a 400 foot fence in Colorado is exactly the same as a 400 foot fence in Toronto.

Steroids have more impact than any deminsional difference when it comes to fences being reachable

Good idea op. Guess we'll need to start some serious construction on a few ballparks. Sorry Boston...but you're gong to have to lose a street. Apologies San Francisco, but you'll have to push some of those right field seats into the water.

the real problem with his idea is weather conditions are different everywhere so even if all dimensions were even they still wouldnt really be even

but what you mentioned could be avoided by grandfathering in the current stadiums and having standards for any new park (kind of like the boston garden had a smaller rink than other arenas but nhl dimensions were standard on every other arena )

No bridge can be setup from that example

Baseball is a show and performance on each field is unique

That is what is special about long flies and gappers hit by batters, any thing can happen

Curtis grandersons inside the parker this week was special and can go down as misplayed or something perfect. Depends on what you are a fan of

granderson hit 30 hrs his last year in comerica. He already was a HR hitter.

Red Sox screwed themselves for decades signing right-handed guys who could get it over that damn Monster and do little else. Playing the Monster as a LF is an acquired skill, though, some turn it into an advantage. Also, that's an A+ title pun if OP intended it.

believe hockey rinks are different lengths too, aren't they?

No. The last two non-standard ice surfaces belonged to the Boston Garden and the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium. Both of them were slightly smaller than standard size. Every single NHL rink is now 200 x 85 feet.

International hockey is played on 200 x 100, known as "Olympic size." Some federations like Finland have gone to a hybrid dimension of 200 x 93. But as far as the big leagues are concerned, every single NHL arena carries the exact same dimensions. The only variance would be the quality of ice - places like Edmonton are acknowledged to maintain the best ice in the league, while places like Dallas and Miami have encountered notorious difficulties over the years with their ice surfaces.

Edit: Forgot to mention, while the Aud was the final NHL rink to include a smaller surface than 200 x 85, the corners at Maple Leaf Gardens were still irregular insofar as they were slightly more squared off than normal. So while the final NHL game on an undersized ice surface was played in 1996, the league's rinks weren't officially fully standardized until 1999. The more you know.
