You said it would be a complete joke. I assumed you meant that you felt he didn't deserve to get in 1st ballot.

OIC

Bonds and Clemons are the best players of the generation. Dumb voters gonna do their thing though. Piazza, Schilling and Biggio should all get in 1st try.

The issue with Schilling is that he's clearly not a top five pitcher of his era (Pedro, Maddux, Clemens, Unit, Glavine) and maybe not top 10 depending on what you think of Smoltz, Mussina, etc. Once you allow all of these guys in, there are tons of pitchers with somewhat similar stats like David Wells or Al Leiter who would probably have a legitimate case. I'm just curious what will end up happening with all of these pitchers.

Schilling has made 19 playoff starts in his career with a 2.23 ERA on his way to 3 World Series rings.

Oh and he's also top 20 in career WAR for pitchers.

He's a legend.

That all may be true, but he's still not on the same level as Maddux, Clemens, Pedro, and Randy Johnson. Glavine is closer than I thought, I guess.

Also he's 26th in WAR, well behind everyone mentioned but Glavine (28th). Mussina is 20th.

Take away Bobds 7 best WAR years and the remaining career WAR is still higher than anyone on the ballot this year. Lulz.

I know, this was for the guy saying that Schilling might not be a HOFer because he played in the same era as Pedro, Smoltz and Randy.

The crazy thing about Morris is, you don't even need to use SABR stats to see the problem. His ERA was 3.9, pre-Selig era.
