interested to see where you guys go for 2B / SS... Not much depth left in those positions. Kinda surprised you didn't save 3B for UNDRAFTED.

Spoiler:

Quote:
As if that wasn't enough, he took a batting practice pitch 375+ left handed off of the top of the left centerfield fence. People talk all the time about the ball sounding different off of a prospects bat and it's usually not completely true. Profar was in the same batting practice group as former Rangers first round pick Jake Skole and his barrel contact sounded hollow in comparison to Profar.
Quote:
Add to this the potential for gold glove caliber defense and Profar not only the best, but safest shortstop prospect in baseball.
Quote:
In three years scouting prospects, the instances in which a highly touted prospect is even better than advertised are few and far between. In the case of Texas Rangers prospect Jurickson Profar, I arrived in Greenville expecting to see a talented, but maybe not elite shortstop prospect and left with a firm belief Profar was the best true shortstop prospect in all of baseball.
Quote:
the terms “elite”, “franchise”, “all-star”, “gold glove” rarely find their way into my scouting reports. In actuality, most critiques thrown my way involve my being too critical. In the case of Jurickson Profar, I’ve scoured my notes and video to identify problem areas in his all-around game, but I simply can’t find any. At present, the young shortstop is as complete a position prospect as one could hope to find at any level of the minor leagues.
He's only 18, but the kid is close. A year, two tops and he will be GOATing.

Team Y$

1. Shane Victorino, CF
2. YUNG GOD PROFAR, SS (wait til' next year)
3. Ian Kinsler, 2B
4. Mike Napoli, MASH

1. Cliff Lee, LHP
2. Yovani Gallardo, RHP

I don't have a one year window and the remaining field of SS are....weak.

We are 6 picks into a 20 player draft. Balance is not bad and it's not like there isn't time left to get some.

eh i think it's too early for him, there are SS options available.. Jurickson's MLE last year: .190/.256/.304

at least when you pick old guys and they retire you get a 0 WAR player

edit: 0 WAR at SS looks something like Wilson Valdez at .249/.294/.341, so i guess he wouldnt be TOO far below replacement level as is, but he has such a wide range of career paths.. mehh. pick is growing on me but still think it's too early.

profar's 50th percentile career projection is 6,000 light years ahead of that valdez line

and he'll be MLB ready in two seconds

my point wasnt that he's likely to be worse than Valdez, it's that you have to wait for him (and then after waiting you aren't all that confident about what you're getting). it's nto going to be next year, so for at least 1 year at least you're taking a <0 war player. which is worse than when undrafted retires after 9 years and you're stuck with a replacement player.

This could come in handy, got off of a btb blog

it's hilarious how yuni b. is so bad that it isn't even possible to get a player of his caliber in this draft.

beachy throws straight as an arrow, he gets by only with guile. it's not just that teheran has higher upside, it's that beachy has a higher turn-to-**** percentage
yea I don't agree at all actually

Beachy had almost a 12% swinging strike % last yr. That was tops in baseball for all starters with min. 100 IP. You wanna see the list of starters in the past 10 years that had a season with a swinging strike % that high? I'll give you a hint, you can count the number of busts one one hand. Not to mention his 10.74k/9 which puts him in a super elite category for his age.

You're also wrong about his stuff which is surprising since you're a braves fan. He has mid 90s heat, a nasty slider and a solid curve and change.

When I watched Beachy this past year I was super impressed.

Also no such "tendency to go with eyeball test/scouting/pure conjecture based on tools" of mine exists. That's a theory someone made up. I do like to watch guys to see if I think they are better than their stats might indicate, but most of the time if I think they are than they're underlying peripherals will demonstrate this, as with Hellickson.

My tendency is to favor the guys who have put up great stats, and also have upside based on pedigree or noticeable talent. I think my team demonstrates this pretty well.

Cant believe i managed to get both Josh Johnson and Brett Anderson. Sure, they suffered some injuries, but when healthy they both have ace upside. Imagine that postseason rotaton of Bauer-Johnson-Anderson.

team m_h

3B Evan Longoria
2B Dustin Ackley
CF Cameron Maybin
C Devin Mesoraco

Beachy was never a top prospect though and relies a lot on deception

Yeah, you kind of wrecked me this round. Good stuff.

Highly recommend you don't hire the Pittsburgh Penguins medical staff.

Thing about Profar isn't just that he's going to be a stud, but he's basically described as the greatest human being ever. "80 makeup" type, speaks several languages so he gets along with everyone in the clubhouse.

I talked to Gary about him last night, and I have no idea whether this is the time to take him or not, but I think he'd put up enough hitting numbers to be replacement level this year or next, and he's more of a can't miss guy than most prospects at his age/level for sure.

hes just 18 and played in single A last year, hes at least 2 years away...seems like a pretty bad fit for mikita's team, though he would be a fine pick here for PC/me/shaft

Don't know why this has discoteque in our spot, but it's wrong. I'm taking one of your three players for your insolence.
