Posey is an ok pick, would be top 10 if not for injury concerns

Yeah, I'm not huge on the Posey pick, but it's not the worst of the draft imo.

Lots of different ways to go at the end of the first round...I'm really interested in the direction the next few drafters will go. Didn't think I was getting anything spectacular like Upton/Stanton/Rihanna, but Cutch is right after those them in my OF rankings, and feel like I got him right around where he should be taken.

Defending Pedroia.....

I think I've made it very clear how I feel about who the top guys should be in this. There is no substitute for proven commodities. A 28 year old who you can pencil in for elite stats is going to be better than a 24 year old who's had 1 good season.

Beyond that, there is positional scarcity. As IRM mentioned earlier (and I totally agree with), you can find good pitchers in later rounds as it's just deeper. But why stop there? Every position is gonna be weaker or stronger throughout vs. another. 2B is definitely not deep given 20 teams, and half the teams are gonna have a complete scrub there in all likelihood. This makes someone like Pedroia more valuable than various OFers etc. I like all 3 of Miggy/Votto/Gonzo, but since 1B is a decent amt. deeper than 2B, I felt Pedroia was the best way to go.

As far as Pedroia vs. Cano specifically, it was really really hard for me since I am a Yankees fan and scrappy is one of my most hated players in all of baseball. But in the interest of playing the right way, I think Pedroia is a bit better in this. He's a year younger, he's a better defender and baserunner, and while both are similar offensively, Pedroia's skill set profiles to decline at a slower rate. He has much better plate discipline, a skill that generally lasts longer than bat speed. It wouldn't surprise me if Cano was better in the next 3-4 years (albeit I'd expect it to be slight), but I think Pedroia has a much better chance to be better in the subsequent 3-4 years.

You say 2B is thin, but Cano's 5.6fWar last year was 6th among 2B behind Pedroia and 4 undrafteds, none of which is older than 30years. Doesnt seem exactly thin to me

I'm also a Yankee fan who hates Pedroia but I think he's better than Cano in this.

Cano has more power but Pedroia is a more complete ballplayer. Cano still swings at a lot of bad pitches and when he goes into a slump he can't walk his way out of it. I see Pedroia as Biggio re-incarnated, and that Biggio had a pretty fine career.
