Pretty crazy that if the season ended today, Clayton Kershaw's pitching wouldn't get him a cy young. Maybe he'll have the best ever season for a pitcher NOT to get the cy young.

I assume hes implying Arrieta would get it again

Traditional stats currently favour Arrieta too much. 8-0 1.29 era just looks too good

carnivore i know you're not saying that wins are meaningful in any way

but just to illustrate how useless a stat it is:

david price is 6-1 with a 5.53 ERA
clayton kershaw is 6-1 with a 1.67 ERA

maybe for evaluating a player's talent level, but the point is that you can allow a ****load of runs and still have a great W-L record if your team's offense is good enough

Yeah but as a pitcher you have to keep your defenders on their toes and ready. Giving up runs means your defense is letting you down

Yeah and if you don't allow any runs and you have a big lead your manager isn't going to use their closer or six time all star relief pitchers so you're clearly better off pitching for the win not for a shiny ERA

All probably moot. Arrieta has looked nothing like 2nd half Arrieta from last season. Gonna catch up before long.

At some point people started thinking of stats as predictors of future output, or as a talent evaluator. All they are is a record of past results.

The best predictor of future success, is past success.

Barves just won

They already won yesterday

This series only goes 3 games

Does that mean

Can someone tell me

Is it possible we still lose the series tomorrow?
