for those who haven't seen it. it's impossible to track the ball
The only person I recall who could hit a ball like that was Dave Winfield. I am sure there were others, but Winfield comes to mind.

Can teams in different leagues even have a rivalry?

Mets are like a 82 win team in a vacuum, but with a 10 win headstart now and having Lehigh Valley Phillies and Barves in the division probably favorites to make the postseason

Adam Eaton, the first batter ever accused of head hunting the pitcher?

Career Retrospective: Joe Nathan - up today on fangraphs.

"If you’re a fan of sabermetrics, Joe Nathan’s Hall of Fame candidacy likely comes down to how you want to frame the discussion. If you look at his 19.4 career WAR and deem that too low and shut it down right there, well you probably won’t be alone. And probably aren’t wrong. But if you look at some other metrics, like WPA, and K-BB%, and take a look at how he compared to his peers in his era, a case begins to form. It might not be any better than the cases that Lee Smith or Jeff Reardon or a half dozen other guys could make, but there’s a case to be made nonetheless. And the fact that there is a case to be made just goes to show how great of a career Nathan had."

Nathan was absolutely incredible while with the twins and iirc was statistically better than Mariano for a couple of years.

With that said, it's hard to make a serious case for any rp being in the hall

Meh, I don't think the Hall is a top 250 WAR list...just because the role isn't as valuable as others, doesn't mean someone can't be enshrined for the excellence with which they performed it (hey Edgar!). I'd have a higher standard for RP admission than SP, but I still want the best RPs in there.

With that approach, I think Nathan just misses. Better pitcher than Smith (lol Reardon imo), but arguably because he was used in a way that protected his numbers better than Smith was. I think for the era, Nathan's a pretty clear #4 behind Mo, Wagner and Hoffman (recognizing the media will absolutely rank Hoff #2) so the question is how many is too many.

edit to add: Just looked at Smith vs Nathan a little more closely and peak levels are closer than I thought...hurts Nathan's came even more in my eyes.

Mets need a world series victory to take back NY. Anything less just doesn't count.

Re: Whether Yanks vs Mets is a rivalry, I think once The Boss started making free agent signings to trumps the Mets' for PR purposes, it was rivalry. Then, when Clemens threw Piazza's bat, it was official.

Hamilton for Howard straight up? Would the Angels ever be that desperate to part with Hamilton to take on the rotting corpse of Ryan Howard?

As long as it gets rid of owing Hamilton $83 mil over the next 3 years, I'd take Nolan Ryan in a straight up trade for him.
