not sure where to post this so hopefully ive come to the right place...apologies if not but...

is there any reasonably logical way to make divisions in American sports, such as basketball, football, hockey, etc. have more equal divisions? or at least perhaps random from year to year? if you look at many of these sports there are certain divisions where there are 3-4 terrible teams and one good/really good team. and then year after year the same good team wins and moves into the playoffs. often times these teams become the champs and even go on repeat runs, ie. NE Patriots, LA Lakers, DET Red Wings. sometimes they might not be the best in the conference but obviously still get in the playoffs, luckbox a few wins and ppl give them tons of credit for being "veterans" and pulling it out, blah blah blah. but in fact, for teams like this it doesnt seem too difficult to ensure that you win the division, get into the playoffs, and see how things go from there. we all know that it doesnt take much to all of a sudden hit a lucky streak and bink a few games, and you find urself in the winners seat.

that said, teams like those mentioned above would not agree to any new system of course. plus all the financial burdens, extra time, etc. so is there any reasonable way to alter this? just wondering...
