Also, do not forget, people who meet their girlfriends/boyfriends online and haven't met in person yet are generally really insecure about it and would likely make up white lies and other things irl to try and have their family/friends accept their relationship as normal.
Ask 1/2 of the population in POG how they explain their relationship to their family/friends and you will hear the same lies.

In the ESPN interview Te'o says he talked on the phone with her everyday for 4 months.
I'd consider that a long time for a hoax that has to take this amount of time and commitment.

If these are the only two options... what's more likely? I favor the former by quite a bit.
I can understand people being insanely sheltered. But not a top ten NFL prospect at Notre Dame. It just can't be possible IMO.
