why don't kickers specifically punters go higher in the draft? or is there little differentiation? i think of ray guy (and hank ilisec in canada.... reggie roby?) but that was a long time ago.
anyway, if a punter could improve your relative field position by 3-4 yards each kick (in tandem with opponent's punter) i would have thought that's huge. maybe not realistic though
EDIT: wow, had no idea punting averages have gone up so much.
also, has there been any work done as to value of positions now? i realize there is a grid for 10th pick vs. 53rd pick.... but it seems like nfl has been overtaken with the value of QB (obvious), CB, DE, LT (maybe DT, TE and WR in certain cases). little relative value for OG, OC, LB, RB, FB, SS, FS (and as mentioned DT, TE, WR somewhere in the middle. WR is probably most interesting)
