While that's true Liverpool didn't ban Suarez for racially abusing Evra and I don't recall any punishment for biting Ivanovic either.

@PNHH have any credible sources claimed Barca will move for Suarez? Is there genuine interest?

LOL at the President. Loving the chip on the shoulder / victimhood narrative / persecution complex / drama queening.

It would appear that Uruguayans are the Scousers of the Western Hemisphere.

888poker signed Luis Suarez following a fantastic season for which his achievements were widely recognized. Regrettably, following his actions during Uruguay’s World Cup match against Italy on Tuesday, 888poker has decided to terminate its relationship with Luis Suarez with immediate effect.

Yeah, and, from a player's POV, this type of all-encompassing, lengthy ban for an isolated play that wasn't either a deliberate attempt to seriously injure or something that threatened the integrity of the sport is horrible precedent. No one wants this type of thing on the table.

Isolated? Really?

If anything good comes out of this situation, it will be that the spectrum of national associations hating FIFA and Blatter might increase.

UEFA hates FIFA because they're in league with the rest of the world and take bribes from them accordingly.

The rest of the world hates FIFA because they're in league with UEFA and unjustly ban RoW players for nothing if they help to knock European teams out of tournaments.

Luis Suarez will be singlehandedly (mouthedly?) responsible for ridding football of Sepp Blatter. GOAT!

Isolated as in one self-contained incident within the game. I understand that the ban incorporated history; at the same time, the four months is still just punishment for that single five-second event. But, yes, probably not the best choice of words.

Apart from those minor details, your point is sound.
Punching a ref is a bit more extreme than attacking a player (yes I know he bit him).

Just assumed it was for violent conduct.

I'm not sure who you are but I've been consistent throughout on my thoughts on Suarez. The reason for the length of his ban is the repeat offender nature of his actions.

The worst offence he ever committed on the field was his racism, I realise the Einsteins in here would say, "but he didn't physically hurt anyone."

I agree with this completely. Pepe got a similar ban (I don't remember how long, probably it was longer) when he kicked Casquero in the head, but that was completely and order of magnitude different than what Suarez did the other day. Pepe could literally have killed Casquero, while Suarez tried to headbutt Chiellini, missed, and caught his teeth on his shoulder. It's not as bad as some potentially leg breaking challenges. It's absurd to punish bad behavior more than dangerous behavior.

Lol caught his teeth on his shoulder. Total fluke, could have happened to anyone.

They should make the ban shorter and instead force him to see a shrink regularly. That would probably be more effective at preventing him from doing this again.

They should be doing that on top of the ban. In fact I would hope that the terms of the punishment include stipulations that he gets psychological help.

Was this not demanded after the second occurrence?

in general I agree that truly dangerous behavior should be punished more harshly than just bad behavior that likely won't really hurt anyone, however when it's the 3rd time all bets are off. other players don't have to worry about lengthy bans like this unless they are serial offenders, so nobody legitamate really has a reason to worry

Yep that sounds about right. Like I said before it's completely standard in south america(especially Argentina and Uruguay) to do whatever you can when the referee/linesman isn't looking to tilt your opponent.
Spitting/Biting/Punching is standard. One cool one that was confirmed by Maradona was in the 1990 World Cup where on the BRA x ARG match they offered Branco water with some kind of tranquilizer in it.
