Pretty unbelievable all told, but it does appear that the playoffs will be beyond them. Need to win a lot of games second half of the season. Madness really.
So before season started a poker acquaintance bet me $100 the Lakers would have a better regular season record than the Heat. Obviously now he appears to be dodging me.

Maybe I should post this in BBV.
Sounds like $100 is worth more to that guy than your poker acquiantanceship.
Lakers need to cut their losses and trade HGH before he walks over to Houston to play with Harden in the Summer.
Why can't pau and Dwight dominate like they should? They should be averaging 20+ rebs combined and play in the post all game. Instead Dwight is required to stay in the post while pau stands around missing jumpers. Then poor Kobe is getting tired and feels like he has to do everything or else they lose. It's such torture to watch them lose like this when its avoidable.
Of course they can still make the playoffs. Despite their record, they're currently ranked #9 in Sagarin predictor ahead of current WC playoff teams in Golden State, Utah, and Houston. They've also missed a lot of time due to injury and switched coaches in the middle of the season meaning their raw performance should be better in the 2nd half of the season without adjusting for variance once they've had more time to play together. The problem of course is that they've got a lot of ground to make up, sitting 4 games behind Houston and 5 games behind Utah with Dallas lurking in the weeds as well post-Dirk injury. I would guess they probably need 42 or 43 wins on average to make the playoffs which would mean either a 25-16 or a 26-15 finish.
What are the chances they do that? Well, the teams who are within a game and a half of the record the Lakers need are: Miami, New York, Indiana, Brooklyn, Chicago, Memphis, Golden State, and Denver. Of those teams, 5 are ranked ahead of the Lakers right now in Sagarin predictor and 3 are ranked behind them. If we assume that the Lakers are likely to play a little better in the second half of the season than they did in the first, I'd say their chances of making the playoffs are roughly 50/50.
