I'm not a very big or knowledgeable NBA fan, but I'm here watching the Lakers-Cavs game with some friends and they all keep talking about how LeBron is going to go to the Knicks next year, which I've obviously heard rumors of for awhile.

However, I never understood WHY he would go to the Knicks.

His chances of winning a championship if he goes to NY is way lower right? I mean, he's had pretty good success with the Cavs and they just signed Shaq... Even if the Knicks try and sign a "2nd star," I still don't see his potential supporting cast in NY being better than what he has in Cleveland now. I mean, Knicks really think they're going to sign Bosh or D Wade? Nate Robinson just recently said he wants to be traded too.

Plus, the Knicks front office is probably worse than the Clippers...

Seems to me like the only reason he would do this is because of the money, but fu*k, LeBron wants money more than he wants rings? He already has a bajillion dollars.

So please, someone, enlighten me

NYK have a lot of salary cap room for next season and LBJ wore a Yankees hat once. That's pretty much it.

he needs to come to LA and begin the most destructive dynasty in professional sports.

pretty much every team in the league would have a better supporting cast than the cavs

that said i dont think hes leaving

The whole reason he'd go there is because it's the biggest market in the game. Being a superstar in NY would do a lot for his overall legacy, assuming he had the same chance at winning a championship. Sports stars in NY are always bigger than other places, all things being equal. The NBA does a lot better job of promoting its smaller markets than MLB, but the similarity between LBJ and Arod is there. Arod left a small market (for MLB) for NYC and has become a much more prominent figure in the media. Granted some of that stuff is negative like steroids, but he's still much more popular than he was before.

The NY Knicks will (most likely) be unable to sign a 2nd Max contract this summer.

The NBA Salary Cap is not expanding, but contracting b/c of the Economy's impact so the NY Knicks simply do not have enough room to sign a 2nd Max contract. All this time (years of planning for 2010 Summer) they had been expecting a normal expansion of the Salary Cap. The Economy really ****ed over the Knicks.

In the midst of all their trades the Knicks also traded away their 2010 Draft Pick, and I'm hoping that it's not a top 3.

Lebron will probably tag team sign this Summer with D-wade or Bosh. Will D-Wade take less money to play with Lebron in NYC? We'll find out much these guys like a handful of million dollars this Summer..

I would think that Lebron and D-Wade would make more money with endorsements being in NYC and from winning Championships than they would from winning nothing in their respective markets.

Last I heard the NJ Nets are one of a few teams who have enough cap space to sign 2 Max Contracts this summer. They will also probably get a Top 4 draft pick. Can you imagine a team of Lebron, D-Wade, and John Wall?

also, LeBron said while he was in HS he'd love to play his career out in MSG. Another sign pointing to it.

Cavs homers can delude themselves all they want and point to cap and this and that but he's

It's Kareem bitching out of Milwaukee at his peak all over again. Middling Midwest market ---> big city/nightlife/big stage = no-brainer.

This is the reason

It's not really that hard to understand.

One of Lebron's biggest things he wants to accomplish in life has to do with becoming some kind of "global icon". He's mentioned it in several interviews, and getting the hell out of Cleveland is going to significantly increase his chances of achieving that goal. Cleveland is essentially one of the least attractive cities to play in the entire country. The only reason Lebron even has a 1% chance of staying is the fact that he grew up there.

His supporting cast sucks in Cleveland, and he still makes them a contender, so he can still easily do that in NY, or LA, or wherever it is he decides to go.

If Lebron is smart, he'll go to any top 5 media market that he can eventually partner up with a big time star in the next year. Whether it be D-Wade/Bosh this year, or CP3 next year. The last thing he needs is to move to a team with an overpaid #2 guy, like Mo Williams.

Because he's in Cleveland and they can't have nice things.

meh, I hate on the Cavs, but Lebrons supporting cast in Cleveland most certainly doesn't suck.

Moving to the Knicks would be a worse situation team wise than being in Cleveland, but the general consensus is he would go there for the marketing/media exposure, and not because the Knicks would present a better shot at a rang.

if thats the case, how can LeBron ever be mentioned as one of the all time greats then, IMHO.....

if he goes to the Knicks, I am pretty confident he will almost never win a ring, maybe 1

am I off track here?

More endorsement money.
12-26-2009 , 05:07 AM
His destiny is to go down as the greatest player to never win a rang, let him rot wherever.

If it weren't for all the impracticalities inherent in such a bet, I'd definitely lay 8:1 that LeBron doesn't finish his career without a ring.

For ****s n giggles. Not that LeBron would ever want to share the limelight with Kobe by playing in the same city but would the Clippers be able to sign a max free agent like LeBron? Seems like that would be a good place to play assuming Griffin's knee heals 100% and the kid can actually play.

edit: neverfreakingmind, who'd be dumb enough to go play for that cursed team?
12-26-2009 , 06:40 AM
lol, while we're on the topic, who is the greatest player to never win a ring? Barkley, Stockton, Malone, Ewing, that's pretty lofty company.

Maravich, Elgin Baylor and George Gervin never won old school rangz either.
