Kyrie is and will continue to be better because he's a great shooter and has a better basketball IQ. Wall has a pretty good chance of being closer to him than people think though when factoring in for defense. Wall has the potential to be an elite PG defender and Kyrie so far has looked really bad on that end.

Kyrie can be the next CP3 while Wall will be a poor man's Derrick Rose.

Irving - 20.1 / 5.5

Wall - 16.3 / 8.1

Dont think its THAT much of a gap. Wall was really unlucky having to play with that roaster for 2 seasons. You could see the frustration he accumulated. He averaged 8.1 APG while having to pass to McGee, Blatche or J. Crawford. Cant really say he has a bad court vision. He's very fast, has incredible handles and can drive to the rim like few can. Wall with a jump shot would be scary.

Irving is playing great. People tend to overrate him slightly but this kid is amazing and has a very bright future (in South Beach most likely ).

Either one's career is screwed though if they choose to continue with their current teams. I dont see Wall staying in Was. unless they overpay like crazy or Irving in Cleveland unless they get one Superstar which ain't likely to happen.

How can Kyrie be CP3 if he can't defend?

And I agree Wall is closer than ppl think w/ his ceiling. Kyrie def better tho.

it's a huge gap, bulk averages are a horrible way to assess this situation. kyrie scores with bulk and efficiency, john wall is one of the least efficient players OAT outside the paint.

How about these gaps?

Spoiler:

Kyrie's play shows IQ; Wall's is erratic. Those shooting percentages are putrid with actually less volume than Kyrie.

As an offensive player, Kyrie has legit 50/40/90 potential. Wall's still improvements from being a 45/35/85 guy and more turnover prone. Wall isn't as good as Damian Lillard right now, let alone Kyrie.

wall's strength isn't shooting it's penetration/attacking the basket and passing/defense (sort of).

they're different players.

citing their fg%s is totally irrelevant because they fashion different roles. kevin durant is 50/40/90, does that make him better than lebron who is 48/38/78?

Then, his percentages should be higher, for one; and this isn't such a strength without stronger FT shooting and a lower turnover rate.

And absolutely no way Wall is a better pass than Kyrie. That's just silly.

Yeah, one's efficient and the other isn't.

Agreed, but I first cited TS%, eFG%, AST%, and TOV%. Pretty important data when comparing PGs.

Wall's extras really don't bridge the gap between him and Kyrie anywhere near LeBron's all-around skill more than bridging the gap between LeBron and KD's shooting; c'mon, man.

Also, that Wall is such a superior attacker should be the case, but again, the efficiency isn't dominating.

Wall at the rim:
2010-11 - 59.9%
2011-12 - 61.9%

Kyrie at the rim:
2011-12 - 60.4%
2012-13 - 55.2%

Wall at 3-9 feet:

2011-12 - 28.3%

Kyrie at 3-9 feet:
2011-12 - 36.5%

i am not, and never was arguing wall is better than kyrie, or that it's close right now. see above.

i am simply saying it's closer than is (clearly) inherently presumed, which is that they will never even be close to equal.

Ah, OK. I can buy that Wall can be at the bottom of the first tier if he gets coached to regulate his pacing or top of the second at best with Kyrie have top-3 potential.
