Bears had 4th and 2 at the Minnesota 38, offense was staying out. Firefox calls time out to think about it. Comes out of the timeout, changes his mind and sends out the punting team. Changes his mind again, with the play clock running, and sends out the offense. The offense couldn't even get lined up in time to snap the ball, delay of game.

Of the little bit of NFL I watched yesterday, I did have my full attention on the game and this one play...f***in BoB some thing never change with these completely inept coaches. It pisses me off so much. Maybe the NFL is losing viewership not because of some kneeling players, but perhaps because the product and decision making are consistently underwhelming? FFS grow some balls as a head coach and give your team a chance to win.

/Rant

Seriously. If our high school coach did this he wouldn't last the year.

Chiefs trailing 12-3 in the fourth quarter. 4th and a full 2 yards on the 4 yard line. Smith throws to the end zone, and it's sort of caught, sort of intercepted, and after couple of seconds of fighting, the ball falls out. This wasn't worth challenging as a touchdown?

he still had to complete the catch through the ground right?

there's zero chance that was a TD catch, to the point where if it had been challenged it would rightly have been ridiculed as "lol not gonna need that time out later"

He never went to the ground. He landed on his feet and clearly established a standing position. He lands, and the defender falls:

At this point, both players have their hands firmly and solidly on the ball (in fact, just after this, the Chiefs player literally lifts the Steelers player off the ground). The Chiefs player is fully standing and has not gone to ground in any way.

Rule 8 - Section 3 - Article 1 - Item 5: Simultaneous Catch. If a pass is caught simultaneously by two eligible opponents, and both players retain it, the ball belongs to the passers.

This is a touchdown.

edit: even better image:

There is no way, in a game where your offence has done absolutely zero, your timeout is worth more than the equity of a challenge here. Not a chance.

Tomlin punting on 4th and 2 from the KC 35 was way worse

Just saw that Doug Marrone ran his kicker out for a 54 yard field goal on second down with 1:12 to go down 10, which he predictably missed. Bet he thought he was being so ****ing smart too

Myers had missed kicks earlier in the game as well.

If you wanted to cut the guy so you gave yourself more evidence to do so its a fine, Gruden approved move

(Yes, I have just watched American Vandal and am looking into the tiniest things with too much effort)

This. I couldn't believe there wasn't a challenge there. No one even the refs know what a catch is. Who knows what the hell the officials will come back with if this is challenged.

Reid absolutely screwed up not challenging that. I bet it would have been overturned. Also should have been interference.

My dad and I both thought it was a TD. He's a Steeler fan, too. It's definitely worth a challenge down two scores with 12 minutes left and still having all three time outs.

It's also completely unfair. If you want to go by scoring plays and turnovers are automatically reviewed there should have been a review. If they call it a catch Pittsburgh gets a free challenge there. Same with if a DB makes a catch/trap. If they call it a catch it's an automatic review, if they call it a trap the defense has to challenge. Need to fix this.

Never mind on the DPI, at least from that it looked clean. Other angles show Harris holding the ball for longer.

I agree that it's probably a TD and worth a challenge, but I believe there's about an 80% chance the result comes back "stands". The NFL has prove time and time again that they won't overturn calls unless it's obvious.

I guess you missed the Jets/Pats game this week or any of the other head scratchingly bad overturns the NFL has done this season.

For every one of those calls I could point to several seemingly obvious overturns where the result is "stands"
