I know it's asking for way too much, but for guy's that live football 24/7 and try to practice every scenario, you'd think they'd seen enough to have a personnel package for when the game is all but over. The idea that u can't take out all the importants because it's only a 53-man roster is ridiculous. Yes u can. Or, at the very least limit your risk by keeping in a handful of your least valuable starters, if you can't make the numbers work. In a sport where injuries happen like walking down the street, it's just unbelievable.

But, then again that'd actually require being able to recognize when your opponent has no chance of coming back to win. If you're nervous with 2 mins left up 3 scores @ home against the Dolphins and Gase because it's playoffs, then ya don't even bother.

well on sunday McCarthy had Matthews and what's left of our secondary out there with 60 seconds left in a four score game (up 25). Clay was going hard every play and our CB actually picked it off and landed hard on one leg. I think he collided with our safety

...and then when driving and having what might as well be an hour left on the clock, calling for a spike and wasting a crucial down that could have helped either score a game-winning TD or at least kick the FG with no time left for a minor deity to drive for one himself.

Yeah, taking the TO there would have been similarly dumb. Just call some 4yd out route, either you have a positive play or you waste an extra 5 sec vs spiking. There was so much time left.

TO would have been fine. Any time you complete a play in bounds and the clock is running with less than a minute and you're trying to figure out what to do, using even your last timeout is okay.

The idea of saving it for the FG attempt is not logical, because you can just as easily use the spike for the FG. You don't know you're going to have another situation like that, but you know you have one now.

So this is the 17th game of the season and they don't know what they wanna run on 4th and long 1? That's the equivalent of a poker player opening on btn for 2.5x with 15 back and getting jammed on and tanking for two minutes bc ZOMG TOURNEY LIFE. Should already know what your plan is.

Andy Reid had quite a few mistakes -- but, give him credit for going for it on 4th and 8 at his own 38 with 7 minutes to go. I doubt >10% of coaches go for it there.
