Ron Washing intentionally walking Miguel Cabrera with the bases empty and one out in the 8th inning of a tie game.

I was watching the game and turned on the laptop just to check the game-thread reactions, did not disappoint

i hate CFB, but my roommate was watching the end of Hawaii @ San Jose State. Hawaii has 4th and a foot from their own 44 or so with 1:24 left (an eternity in college). SJS has no TOs left. Rush a foot and win the game.

They kick. SJS drives easily and scores to win. On the scoring play, Hawaii sent the house, resulting in an easy 1v1 crossing route that results in the 40 yard score.

This could also get cross posted to the announcers say stupid **** thread. Rod Gilmore said you have to kick there, because if you don't get it you'll be known as the worst coach in the country.

It's a Friday night tradition for Rod Gilmore to advocate for a punt in a not even close situation, he takes pride in doing that.

Just terrible coaching by Hawaii's staff, period. Tried to run out the clock with terrible offensive play calling. They rightfully deserved to lose. Turrrrrrrrrible, Kenny...

Michigan down 7, midway through the 4th, 4th and inches at the Sparty 8. Denard Robinson is your QB. Pretty easy play call, run some kind of QB sneak and...OMG WTF ROBINSON DROPS BACK TO PASS, sack, loss of 10+, turnover on downs.

Brady Hoke, new leader in the clubhouse.

Well, the decision to play him at quarterback in a pass-oriented offense is pretty bad in general; that play was just the clearest manifestation of the bigger problem.

Illinois down 10 to Ohio State, 1:20 left

4th and 2 at the OSU 10 yard line. Illinois has an elite kicker.

Ron Zook goes for it.

Ron Zook going for it on 4th and 2 from the 15 with 90 seconds left while down 10 with 2 timeouts is pretty amazing. Normally coaches get those things wrong the other direction

Meh, I don't think it's that wrong. You have a pretty good chance to convert and score your touchdown a few plays later, then if you get the onsides kick you only have to get into field goal range. Doubt it's more than a couple of percentage points wrong in either direction, if that.

nope, none of that. it was your standard extra point kick. the ball snuck inside the upright and he challenged.

Yeah, I would think that if you have an elite kicker that the bigger benefit is not having to drive nearly as far on your FG drive, and being able to kick from the 30-35 instead of the 10.

Wait, the name of this thread is "Post here when coaches do something obviously stupid." How are these close decisions getting past the mods?

Well, there's a lot of stuff that happens after the decision, but no this is bad. You don't have a good chance to convert and score your touchdown a few plays later, you have a good chance to convert. And then you're probably looking at 1st and goal from the 9 with 70 seconds left, which is a situation which does not have an expected points value of 7.
