This season was really weird. Weren't they 5-2 at one point with like a top 3 DVOA? I seem to recall them resembling one of the best teams in the NFL after a half season. Their season could aptly be described by the VH1 voiceover guy: "But behind the scenes, everything was falling apart...."

"Vince Young drove a motorcycle through a hotel lobby"
"Jeff Fisher Zeppelin'ed a groupie with a giant fish"
"Chris Johnson damaged his grille during a pyrotechnic stunt after a show in Indianapolis"

They were fine until Jeff made his behind the scenes power play to insert Kerry as the long term starter by starting him over a relatively healthy VY against Miami. From that point everything went downhill. Jeff lost the locker room at that point. I don't blame the players. I wouldn't want to play for a coach who consistently wanted to put the team in a worse position to succeed.

Love the lies and deception that were spewed from the team/Fisher down the stretch.

Redskins game: VY leaves with injury, comes back to the sidelines, Fisher doesn't put him back in because VY "doesn't come talk to him and tell him he's ready" despite the fact VY is throwing balls on sidelines.

Texans game: VY shows up on sidelines to watch the game. Fisher claims he never even knew VY was on the sidelines (despite the fact that VY was there well into the 3Q).

Then, was just funny that he made a huge to-do about VY not apologizing to him straight up (instead, Young opted for a text message) and then Fisher gets canned by Bud Adams over speakerphone.

Worth mentioning: he only had five losing seasons. His overall record was 142-120, which includes the 1-5 as an interim his first year.

It's not that easy to win in the NFL. It's also not easy to win when you've had Peyton Manning and the Colts in your division for the last 13 seasons. Also not that easy to win with a viable Jacksonville team at times. There have really been 3 above average teams in the division for most of Fisher's tenure. Previously, he was in a division with the Ravens and Steelers.

Also, when they were in Nashville, it's not like the biggest market so the expectations were not always that high.

Sorry 9. He also had Pitt/Baltimore before that. He wasn't an elite coach but for the Titans he was way above average.

Not only that but they kicked VY out of the facility the day before he texted his apology. Next day Jeff predictably takes his offensive to the media about how immature Vince is for apologizing via text. You kicked the guy out of the facility, WTF did you want him to do? Jeff is such a bitch but my god is he good at the game of deception. If he was half as good at coaching football as he is with Media Manipulation/PR he'd be in the category of Lombardi. He was really meant for politics.

Maybe he meant that it was a text instead of a phone call?

Somebody please make the case for VY not being a goblin (aka terrible QB) that's not based on team record? I mean my impression is that he's basically never been very good at you know, throwing the ball to where it's supposed to go.

VY's advanced metrics aren't bad (even if they are limited by sample size and however the offense is simplified / being a running QB affects those number). I made a post about this somewhere in the offseason thread, but basically VY is better than Kerry literally no matter what metric you use-- anything from ANY/A to QB wins and everything in between-- and Fisher sticking with him is obstinate and demonstrates a commitment to something besides winning first.

Just that a lot of people said those kinds of things about Campbell--good QB, would excel elsewhere, etc., then he turned in a completely mediocre season at Oakland much like his past performances in DC.

neuroman, thats a pretty terrible comparison. while ppl said campbell would do better if things fellin place, the truth was campbell had never really played well for a remotely extended period of time. vince has.

VY was a Pro Bowler, after all.

And Titans had NFL's leading offense through like first 4-5 weeks in 2010 with VY at the helm.
