Obviously Dakich blew his opportunity, so on with the search.

Some of the names Ive been hearing in Bloomington sound like guys who wouldnt be interested in leaving their current jobs: Pearl, Pittino, Barnes. I just don't see how any of those guys would realistically be interested in leaving the programs they've got for this mess.

Jamie Dixon has also been bandied about, and that seems a little more reasonable.

Tim Floyd has tried to contact IU AD Rick Greenspan recently. But he's not too bright and dialed the wrong number, left that message on a line for a girl working in international student affairs, she shared it with someone who shared it with someone else and bam, now its on youtube.

Has anyone here tried to call Tim back yet?

He went 15-67 with a frontcourt of Brad Miller, Elton Brand and Ron Artest.

Watching USC has convinced me that Floyd is one the 5 or 6 worst coaches ever.

I'm scared to death that he'll leave USC for LSU or Indiana and they'll get a real coach, which would be bad news for the rest of the pac-10.

Brownell, Miller, Bennett, Dixon

83% it comes from that group
17% it comes from everyone else(Pearl, Pitino top of that)

Really? Stallings isn't a serious candidate?

Best candidate should be Kruger.

Bennett also great choice.

as of right now, it looks like there is around 15 other names that people believe is more likely. The stallings talk is dead right now, being a Purdue grad does not help him much in this spot.

obviously agree

Dixon and Miller would be solid IMO as well

if they go with Pearly, it will be a redeclaration of war

Kruger getting no mention currently, Bennett still believed to be most likely, though I like Pitino and Izzo stuff though I see no chance with Izzo, but at least there is a chance with Pitino, also some new Matta talk, but I'm not sure how much I want him, I think he can recruit great, but I don't love the way his teams play, it reminds me of Mike Davis ball. Pearl is currently not getting much talk at all. A lot of guys would do a pretty good job. I'm conflicted on Bennett/Miller, not sure who I like more, I like both a bit more than Dixon. I do like Pitino more than anyone else. I'm ready to get this coach hired and move on, it'd help if some of these coaches would just go ahead and lose.

Izzo and Matta are pipe dreams IMO. Rest are at least within the realm of possibility, despite many being very unlikely (Pearl, Pitino).

I agree with Izzo, but Matta returning to Indiana wouldn't be as big of a shock considering where his wife's parents live(45 mins from Bloomington) or where I assume his parents still live and all his other ties to Indiana. He did turn down the IU job 2 years ago, but he had Oden/Conley and the rest coming in that year for a shot at a national title.

if Matta didn't have it set-up so well, I agree that IU would be a huge chance

however, looking at his future recruits, no way he leaves

My "I know nothing" feeling is that Tony isn't leaving WSU for Ind. If he does, I will be very unhappy.

fwiw, people in the know feel it isn't anything close to a sure thing that he would leave for IU if offered. Everyone is saying the increase in pay wouldn't really matter and that he would enjoy the lower profile job.

my enormous fear is that pearl leaves tennessee for indiana.

lon kruger would also suck for IU to get.

otherwise, i really don't care.

yeah I was talking with a few of my friends last night about this. Even though he does have great classes on the way, it isn't like like back when Oden/Conley came in when they were preseason top 5 or whatever they were and expected to compete for a natl title. He has 19 and 4 coming in and then Pryor too is ranked top 30, is he playing bball too? Then you have the 2010 class which is loaded, but still his natl title shot is a few years away unlike Oden/Conley. I still don't see it happening though.

I don't think he signs the deal he did last year if he was going to leave the next year. Also I don't think he leaves for a big-10 school if it's true that his real end goal is the Wisc job. That's what's been driving my thinking.

Also I think you'd have to be braindead to want to be part of that cluster****, and he's not.

the signing deals stuff leaving next year happens all the time. If you're calling IU a cluster****, not sure what is driving that. It's a bigtime program who can compete for national titles. Many nonbraindead people would love to have the opportunity. His expected pay increase would be 500k-1 mil per year wouldn't be too bad either.

Pitino? He's got a better chance of going back to Kentucky!

I believe he said he was going to play only football at the University of Ohio State.

Non-braindead people would potentially rather not expose themselves to the levels of scrutiny that the IU fanbase puts forth. Nobody wants to go out like Mike Davis.
