Without getting into whether or not "good guys" is a lame comment I don't think I ever recall attending a game where the announcer wasn't biased for the home team. My dad has been a high school fb coach for 30+ years and I've been to 100s of games and think this story is pretty standard. Isn't part of the announcer's job to fire up the home crowd?

Another question I have...why are there two announcers for the game? Is this really necessary?

QFT. I was wondering this as well.

Two announcers worked really well for that Plano comeback video. Of course, they weren't stadium announcers either. Oh man, just imagine if they were going over the loudspeaker during that game.

Glad the thread has started to give me a few votes honestly, I was surprised by the overwhelming negative response at the beginning. I still consider all opinions, though. As I mentioned before, "good guys" is certainly retired after one usage, it certainly isn't worth going to battle for...but I'm going to stick with my general biased tone/inflection.

He does the first half, I do the second half. The idea is that the one who isn't announcing is the spotter and will tell the announcer who the defender was who made the tackle, so the announcer just keeps track of ballcarrier and yardage on the play.

Honestly, I could do the whole thing myself (the other dude doesn't give me more than three tacklers the whole half that I call, I mostly have to do it myself, he's all into his halftime popcorn), and the AD has said I can just do that once the old guy decides to hang it up...I do announce basketball by myself already.

Gruch! Well, as an official for high school and up. I would say it is fine to be excited for your team but you can't take it too far and probably shouldn't say things like the good guys. But if you say "TOUCHDOWN (enter your mascot here)!!!!" That is fine. Or even big play or big punt, "AND A BOOMER BY (enter name here)!!!!" I think that would be ok too. Saying things like "beautiful run by (enter name here)" but replacing beautiful for 36yd for the other team is fine too.

Usually there are 2 guys for TV or radio, one is play by play the other is the color commentator. Madden (or any other ex NFL player) for instance is always the color guy.

I think stuff like this is fine for radio/television broadcasts.

Stadium announcing? Not so much.

While randomly looking up videos on the single wing formation, I came across this video and thought of this thread.

This is why stadium announcers doing play-by-play is retarted

Wow - that is annoying. I've never heard the stadium announcer actually try to do play-by-play like a tv or radio broadcast. Usually they just give a couple word summary at the end of the play.

lol. "It's not number 32." Awesome.

Definitely agree with Jimbo. Just give a little summary, not pbp.
