The Babe Ruth homerun pic is worlds better than his about to die pick.

The helipad tennis match shot is incredible.

Agree with Seth that portrait photos weren't given enough love.

Love this Ruth one:

Lots of good photos from that match.

Rahman gives up a crown, but gains another.

22 year old Paul Gascoigne, the sensation of the 1990 World Cup after receiving a yellow card in the semi final, meaning he'd miss the final. Iconic for any Englishman.

Great photo and back story.

Similar to the Butcher one.

Spoiler:

David Busst breaking his leg, apparently Schmeichel vomited on the pitch and half a dozen of the players who witnessed it needed counselling. I like the following too for the look of horror on Dublin's face and alarm on Irwin's.

John Terry getting knocked in to unconsciousness.

In all seriousness this is a top 2 round pick. John 'Mr Chelsea' Terry, took a penalty to win the 2008 Champions' League for Chelsea (their first). He slipped and missed, and Man Utd went on to win.

Seeg Heil!

Sport is a lonely place sometimes...

Sir Bobby receiving a standing ovation. He had only a few days to live but was doing what he loved, watching a match which he put on to raise money for a cancer ward.

Iconic celebration by the premier league's top scorer.

The Queen presenting the World Cup to Bobby Moore.

Bednarik/Gifford was my elite undrafted. Probably my favorite nfl pic imo, I might have picked it in the first round if I was in this.

Obviously bosoxx picks it just to cement his loldominance of this draft.

Also here's the injury story I was refering to:

Quarterfinals of the CL of the time, 1964/65. Cologne against Liverpool, after drawing the first two legs, a deciding game in Rotterdam was played (that's how they did it back then). After about 20 minutes Cologne player Wolfgang Weber collided with Gordon Milne and felt what he described as a sting in his leg.

Because substitutions were not allowed back then he tried to play on after getting a painkilling shot during halftime. In a moment of epic fail the doctors told him to jump off a bench to make sure the leg would hold. They had not diagnosed the partially broken leg which after the jump turned into a fully broken leg.
He played the entire second half and Cologne came back from a 2:1 deficit to make it 2:2 (Weber himself actually had a couple of decent chances at scoring).
Unfortunately for Weber this result meant overtime, an extra 30 minutes of incredible pain as he would later describe it.
Cologne was denied a supposedly valid goal and the overtime ended scoreless.

To add the ultimate insult to injury back in the day after a draw in overtime, a cointoss decided the game. Conventional poker wisdome would have it that well it's 50/50 either you win or you lose anyways...the coin was tossed in the air, rotated a couple of times and landed...

Spoiler:
...in the mud stuck...on neither heads nor tails. The coin was retossed and Liverpool won the toss and advanced to the semifinals.

Weber had palyed 75 minutes with a broken leg and lost the game on a cointoss...and yet he would later say that ths wasn't his most tragic loss...

Spoiler:
He played in the finals of the worldcup one year later and the game was essentially decided by the infamous Wembley Goal

OK I was gone all day but I see many of the pics I was talking about have been posted now.

Notably: Ryan v. Ventura (should definitely have gone), Munich gunman (how the **** did this not get taken?), Seles stabbed, Usain Bolt, Griffey Jr. wrist break, Eddie Gaedel (wtf is wrowg wit u people?), Hull's skate in the crease, Bannister 4 minute mile.

And here are some more good ones that should have been considered, I threw in a couple funny ones too for those who wanted to go that route:

Ali meets The Beatles

Tyson WBC belt (or plenty of good Tyson+D'Amato pics)

Brady on his back

Ozzie Smith game winner

Kobe Fashion Shoot (lol)

Foreman proudly waving American flag at the Olympics

Brandi Chastain

Phelps yell

Brees Super bowl baby

Gary Coleman meets Mark Messier (lol)

Bo Jackson dual sport

Natalie Gulbis stretches

Did any of these get mentioned yet?

Spoiler:

Possibly the most iconic NFL pic in history, Johnny U's classic pose from the "Greatest Game".

Spoiler:

Simply known as "the Swing", this pic (and others like it) captures the essence of one of the smoothest ballplayers (and men) in history. A classic image of a man who defined his era on and off the field.

"Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio,
Our nation turns it's lonely eyes to you.
What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson.
Jolting Joe has left and gone away,
Hey hey hey."

Spoiler:

Probably the best pic of Payton's patented goal line leap, this image captures one of the all-time greats at his greatest.

Spoiler:

A possible late-round pic, this image of legend Nap Lajoie is one of my baseball favorites. A simple image of a time when sports were simple contests with less hype.

My two favorite photos of the draft were the ManRam homer and Pete Rose slide. Somehow I'd never seen either before and they captured spirit of Rose's "Charlie Hustle" persona and Boston's love affair with baseball just perfectly.
