If possible #7 is even more difficult when seen in person. Totally absurd.

Day fell right in front of us.

Happy my buddy's friend Jimmy Gunn made the cut.

Super impressed with Brian Campbell

Course is tough to follow a group but you can do a good job of it once you know your way around. Helps a lot of it's not a big name group obviously. No point in trying to follow Rory for example.

Man Rory missed like 9,000 putts to the left today. Just ****ing aim 2 more inches to the right, dude.

Pretty cool to have ***RYDER CUP*** partners SPIETH and REED in the final pairing at the US 'MERICAN OPEN.

We stood right next to the grandstands on 7 for about 8 groups today, and saw maybe 2 balls end up in the correct bowl. Everyone was losing shots there. They were having a lot of trouble getting it up and in from the back.

Am I the only one who likes watching golf on this course? Way too much complaining.

I'm not really happy with fox though, I think one thing everyone wants to know is the driving distance and they haven't mentioned it all. Just a whole bunch of you won't believe how far dj hit his drive. I'll believe you just ****ng tell me.

I like both the course and the coverage by fox.

I do not want Patrick reed or Dustin Johnson to win but that's only because I'm rooting for the one true American, JORDAN SPIETH.

I've enjoyed the Fox coverage, but you're right wrt mentioning the driving distances--they don't mention it--and if they do, they just don't do it enough.

I think most of the driving distance numbers are irrelevant and artificially long due to elevation changes, a tendency toward long runout, and then huge variance in actual runout from ball to ball. Thing that matters is appropriate club for second shot.

I think it is something the casual fan enjoys. They don't care or think about those things.

Has a drive come even close to 400 yards yet? Everyone was betting their net worth on a 400 yard drive but I can't recall seeing one close to that. I think JB Holmes hit one 347. Too much fescue that undulates into the fairways and fairways too side-sloped for balls to run out to 400+.

They mentioned dj hit one about 400 yards, so I'm sure people have been close.

Sorry, that sounded testy and wasn't supposed to.

Also yes, DJ hit one that rolled out over 400 on Thursday iirc.

The thing to actually keep in mind is their actual carry distance. Here's the St. Jude from last week:

http://www.pgatour.com/stats/stat.02409.html

That is noisy because of lots of 3-wood, hybrid and iron usage, but the point is that I believe the average tour carry distance with driver is like 280 - 290, which doesn't sound that long compared to lol-regular-I-drive-it-300 guy, but then that guy is CARRYING it like 270ish most of the time, meaning he's 15-20 yards short of the averageish pros who routinely smooth their drives with runout to 300 no stress.

DJ averaging > 300 carry isn't surprising for him, but is insane irl. Insane. That is so far.

No, you're not alone. I love what I've seen from the course. Never been a big fan of poa annua greens, but other than that I really like it.

My one gripe about the course is that it does not lend itself to a telecast as well as other courses since it is difficult (at least for me) to gain perspective of the landing areas etc when a shot is hit. That isn't really a criticism of the course, but of how it is presented on TV. I'm not absolutely sure that another network could improve that aspect, but I doubt that Fox is the best available.

Fox coverage isn't quite as bad as I had feared, but their use of various graphics technologies seems to be based more on their availability rather than the need for them. The stupid highlighting of the hole on Thursday was terrible. I didn't notice it as much Friday, but I missed much of the broadcast. The shading of the slopes on the greens is way overdone. Please just show it to give the viewers some perspective, then get it the hell off my TV! Graphics of the leaderboard and the score of individual players as they are shown has been awful.

And someone please tell Joe Buck and the rest of the football gang that the average IQ of people watching golf is higher than the average IQ of people watching the NFL.

Flags on golf channel coverage look like they are whipping around. If so look out. Could get messy out there.

I absolutely love this course. I can safely already say that there are a handful of holes that are already memorable, which is insane after seeing the course just twice. There are a couple holes that appear unfair and not the best test of golf, but adjustments can always be made. Is it the 8th hole where the entire fairway and green slope to the right? That one looks awful. You basically have to rip a draw/hook off of a fade/slice lie. But that's super risky b/c if you leave it out right you are ****ed.

And yeah, I don't have a big problem with the wacky undulations of the green, I think they make for good TV watching these shots roll around for a while and settle, but it does seem that making putts from 3-10' is overtly difficult due to the bouncing factor that the green gives off. That part of it sucks but as far as how firm, fast, and undulating they are? No problem with that.

I haven't had an issue with FOX other than their scoreboard. The little top 5 leaderboard in the bottom right that basically never changes is overkill. And they aren't doing enough updates of the first 3 pages of the leaderboard like NBC and CBS do. That's just a quick easy way for the viewer to know who is on the course, where they are at, how they are playing, etc. But they aren't showing it enough. It's like just the top 5 golfers matter. lol.

Yeah I've been bitching about that top 5 leaderboard in the lower right corner since Thursday. It's so dumb.

Agree they need to show the driving distance and yardage to the hole on as many shots as possible.

It amazes me that these producers are supposedly the best in the biz and they still miss obvious things.

That said, the shot tracer usage almost makes up for all the other stuff.

Also agree this course makes for great viewing. Stoked for the weekend

I like the leaderboard. Its not obstructing anything important and has value, especially when they cycle through the top 20.
