Until recently we couldn't compete with Madrid for wages. SAF had to personally speak to the board in order to get Roy Keane a raise when he was our captain and best player. Then we had the Glazers takeover and couldn't compete with most top clubs for wages or transfer fee's "no value in the market" etc We missed out on tons of players because of it including Varane/Benzema to Madrid. Hazard/Robben/Sneijder another few high profile ones.

At no point were we capable of offering Guti double his Madrid wages, especially not when the tax rate in Spain was 20%ish and UK 40.

So yeah lol you.

I know that if United can't afford to pay their captain and best player the same wages he'd get offered elsewhere then it's literally impossible we could offer 2x what he was getting paid at Madrid.

Please link me to this evidence you have which says we offered him that money? I don't GAF about Marca or AS and already listed multiple stars we missed out on for financial reasons. You think we can't afford Robben/Benzema/Hazard/Sneijder/Ronaldinho etc but then offer LOL GUTI 2x his wages? Go home mate your drunk.

Seems like we're very close to signing him. In yet another case of lolvilla, apparently he's due a wage increase from 40k up to 60k per week next season, and up to 90k the season after with no relegation clause. I'm gonna guess they're gonna try to offload him.
