Like, do you think the ruling for Valencia's red card would in any way be different from red cards 'in general'?

He'll receive a higher amount of games suspended, yeah. That doesn't mean that "red cards in friendlies don't mean ****", though. Or that one red card gets you banned for WC games, and the other only for friendlies...

Early reports are that the injury doesn't look good.

that's a damn shame if the ox is injured. He and Barkley were great, it was clearly a reserve team and we played fine without being spectacular, but those two were the most encouraging performances by some distance and it'll suck if we can't count on the Ox as a semi-secret weapon.

interested to see Roy's team selection for Honduras. Sterling deserves a start imo, disregard the dumb tackle in this game and give the lad a chance. I'd like to see the first choice defense line up again, as tonight we proved our subs each have two legs and not much beyond that. Let's give Cahill and Jags some more game time together, and get a sense of cohesion to the lineup. Overall very happy with how Roy is approaching this so far, and I'm quietly encouraged by the sense of freedom the younger players appear to be showing.

We were around 7-1 for the 2010 WC. We're much better equipped this time around, and we're 3 times the odds. Ox fitness is a key factor though, fingers crossed.

Defence has gotta play together.

The proper one. Not the one involving any United defenders. Lol.

ehh, wayne is capable of doing a job in any position beyond midfield but the days of expecting him to produce a match-winning performance appear to be gone. I'm unsure as to what his optimum role is, but I still can't find it in myself to drop him. I'm biased as I heard about him before he left school (the ante-post folder in my bookies was packed with long-range bets on this unknown 14yo kid to captain England one day at ridiculous odds) and witnessed the beauty of his early days in the Everton first team. He's a natural born elite level footballer, and England don't get many of those, but I suspect his time has passed and it'll be a challenge for Hodgson to squeeze the best out of what's left of him.

Wayne will still be used. We need something to happen we can chuck him on for 30 mins.
But right now he isn't good enough, when Barkley etc are doing very well whenever they get a chance.

Sure, Rooney is one of the few players in our squad who are capable of being world class, but it seems a risk when so far he has not done much to make you think he will reach that level right now.

He comes on for 30 mins vs Italy and impresses he can have his spot back. But he shouldn't just get to play because he is Rooney.

I'm 95 percent sure he will start though having said that.

Having what was essentially a walk to the quarterfinals probably had more to do with that than relative quality of the squad.

From what I can gather Hodgson was critical of Barkley tonight, said he gave the ball away too much, but described Jones' performance as "outstanding".

Still seems really short. Though perhaps the last 4 years have influenced my thoughts on that.
I miss the good old days of believing we could and would beat anyone.
