Hats off to Mexico...I usually root for the Dutch since I like their way of life and philosophy a lot, but I'm sort of conflicted.

Mexico, the USA, and GOATA Rica going as far as possible is a great thing for the USA. Honduras is not living up to the bill, however.

The WC needs Mexico and the Dutch so it sucks. I love seeing footage of Mexico City where they got like 20 million Mexicans just going ape **** and starting fires and God knows what else.

So much novelty in this Sweet 16 match up I don't know what to do with it.

We're not this bad. We really aren't. But we just don't have the guy to pick the lock in the final third and it kills us. Not nearly enough creativity to break down well structured opposition, and credit to Mexico, they gave us nothing.

I really, really hope that guy is Halilovic.

I'm absolutely devastated right now.

It feels like I never see the big win. I only experience the crushing defeats. And they're getting too numerous to count now.

Devastated.
you guys beat iceland. that, to me, was a big win for you. big loss for me. qualifying for the world cup is a big deal.

I wish we were all winners here but at the end of the day, It's only going to be me, OGKUSH, oigres, and the rest of the Mexicans. The rest of you will lose and you should be okay with that.

Like I've been saying all along, this Mexico team is made for big moments and you NEVER have to worry about us not delivering the goods at a World Cup. Guess what? It doesn't just stop here. WE ARE GOING TO BEAT NETHERLANDS. After that, we are just going to keep beating whoever comes next.

Keep doubting us, we are just going to keep proving you wrong.

USA-Mexico in the Final 4 would be surreal.

Mexico looks to have a kinda easy road if they beat the Dutch . . . prb GOATA RICA or Ivory Coast, then Argentina/Belgium/USA #1 . . . all things considered an easy road to a WC final, especially that Elite 8 match up where they'd probably be favorites.

Meanwhile the other side has France, Germany, Brazil, Columbia. The Dutch-Mexico game is pretty much a ticket to the Final 4 imo.

The guy (M'Bia) eventually did get a yellow - in the 79th minute - after various failures by the referee, when he prof-fouled/chopped down Fernandinho (I think), surging forward just on the left hand side of the centre circle (Brazil-pov). That was a clear yellow, but, in fact the least bad of his fouls to that point.

*They tell me the Mex-Croat game was mean-spirited as well - but there at least there was something to fight for - even if Croatia was ineffectual.
Mbia loves yellow cards. Trust me, had nothing to do with him playing against Brazil. Dude doesn't know the rules, that's all. Super over aggressive

i.e., he's a thug. There's no 'doesn't know the rules'. There's no lolhockey-'brawling's part of the game'. He's a professional football player. So you're telling us he's literally just a thug - and should be dealt with. The referee was completely lost.

Live basically next to the Angel of Independence here, seeing all the people celebrating the now customary ro16 birth is always a lot of fun. After we beat the next LOLUEFA team I'll write up a small trip report and take some pictures.

I think Netherlands are actually beatable, depends on whether or not Mexico makes a stupid mistake like they did in the end of the Croatia game. Croatia looked like a very solid side, and ultimately dismantling them like that was surprising and very pleasant to see.

The promise of this generation of players is starting to reveal itself finally.

Mexico does well in the group stage of the World Cup. And they deserve credit for that. But Mexico has lost in the knockout stage 5 times in a row. You could argue that a lot of that is due to just running badly, and I'd probably buy into that to a certain extent because variance is much higher when it's just one loss and teams are done.

But wow, if your team beats the Netherlands, I'd expect Final 4 or better. I never thought I'd say that before.

Yes, he's a thug. He's a psychopath on the field. He's cost QPR a lot with his antics. He means well though!

a. stop talking about this like it's the damn ncaa's
b. lol @ already having the usa penciled into the knockout rounds and as a potential threat to beat belgium if they get there. while an all out soulcrushing germany/ghana blitz from the first whistle would be delightful to watch, i really hope it's a stoppage time goal by ghana that ends up eliminating the US...god that'd be tasty.

Those started as nicknames and became official brand names of the rounds of the March Madness NCAA basketball tourney. Naturally, we can't help but use the names for other bracket competitions as well.

Whoever said Netherlands hasn't been impressive in their wins needs to stop posting. Yeah, they didn't France-stomp Australia, but whatever. They were probably a little overconfident in that game, and who can blame them? They looked absolutely the best team in the tourney after game 1, and they frustrated the hell out of Chile when they were playing for the draw and they didn't have RVP.

Trolling aside, I think Mexico has played well, especially against Brazil. The other two opponents obviously weren't very dangerous, but you still have to win the games. I'll be surprised and impressed if you can beat the Netherlands. They already beat a hot South American team, so the loluefa thing isn't just a lock.

I quite liked this:

Jonathan Wilson ‏@jonawils 10m

Mexico's manager Miguel Herrera - looks like a cross between Nick Griffin and Peter Griffin.

So happy for Mexican fans. I think they are better off the Dutch simply because chile would be a road game and the Mexican fans can make the game vs the Dutch a pseudo home game. But Holland has looked great.

I will not. They call that . . . Freedom.

Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final 4, Championship.

Much better than the banal utterances of 'semi final' and 'quarter final'.
