Seems silly at this point to not play the Olympics then bounce. Ticking clock I guess.

Don't some of the other players have kids? Doesn't seem like you have to retire to have kids.

Is it too early to speculate on who returns next summer for the Olympics? Starting with this WC roster of 23, then subtracting Rampone, Boxx, Wambach, (all 3 speculation on my part) and now Holiday, and moving one of the back up GKs to the alternate roster would get you to 18. Add 3 alternates from a list of upcoming younger players.

Also a chance some combo of older players like Lori Chalupny (32 in 2016), Whitney Engen (29), Heather O'Reilly (31), Amy Rodriguez (29) who didn't play much aren't asked back.

Tennis lasts too long and volley ball is a bit too niche.

Soccer has more wide spread appeal and is a simpler game to under stand at a base level. The fact it's two hours start to finish for non ET matches is so massive for watchability. Add that to the fact there's only one break it's got a super high ceiling in terms of being able to gain new viewers comparatively.

Meh, at the National team level, prob right. Guessing grand slam women's tennis does a lot better than the nwsl (there's been multiple women's leagues start and fold in the past 15 years alone).

Not sure about volleyball. I'll guess women's college volleyball does better TV ratings than soccer.

The world cup though is just such an exciting event and it's tops in terms of quality for the women's game. I suspect the Olympics will do well, as well. So we'll probably get a big spectacle every few years, which I'm cool with.

And hope solos mangled week-old pastrami looking snatch.

It's possible to do both, but pregnancy causes some pretty dramatic physical changes and requires you to cut back on your training, so I can't really blame someone who doesn't necessarily want to go through the grind that it would take to get back up to an elite level after taking time off to have a kid or two.

not sure how, but the 2011 WPS thread actually had a fair number of posts. Seemed like a lot of the conversation was between Clark, Meb, and me

Yeah the league took a year off to reform. Had to because of the owner of the Orlando team. Current league does ok still. portlands team draws over 10k a game.
