I have Cech as my GK in the fantasy league, so i wouldn't want something special happening.

Czech Republic's performance has been really disappointing, i don't remember them having 1 goal attempt all match long.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but it looked like somebody was offside on that goal (not Sverkos, but someone else up top).

it was actually pretty difficult to hit the post instead of the goal there..

New (debatable) rule makes passive offside players in an action not considered in offside.

What exactly does "passive" mean? The ball wasn't played in to him, but he was smack in the middle of the field, only a few yards horizontally away from where the pass came in.

That's the problem of the rule, it's up to the referee or the linesman to judge if a player is in passive or active position. In this case on one side you can say that it was active because the pass was directed where he actually was, on the other side he clearly didn't tried to play the ball but was just coming back from his offside position.

Are the group games going to be on ESPN 1 or 2, or just on classic and deportes?

The "Tactics for the future" article in the above magazine brings an interesting perspective on that rule and the various consequences of it.
Especially what Rijkaard is saying is very interesting.

The other articles are worth a read as well.

This game should be a lot better. When Turkey or Portugal play there is usually drama. What can't happen when they actually meet?

I usually more or less hate both these teams so all I'm rooting for is some action.

edit: OMG Herbert Fandel is the ref. If anyone cannot control a high intensity match it sure is him. He also loves bringing himself into focus. And with these two nations?? Good job once again UEFA!

Lots of open football in that half compared to the first match.

Portugal are looking good though I think it should be better when given that much space.
I like that both Deco and Moutinho are playing which really keeps the flow of their passing game going but man Ronaldo must miss having a striker he can actually work with and who will compliment his game.
Nuno Gomez is doing nothing, making things at least tolerable for the turkish defence. Even when they due to the sheer quality they're facing are on their heels a lot of the time.

Any of Quaresma, Almeida or Nani instead of Gomez would instantly make Portugal even better.

Bosingwa the right back is already looking like the best in the world so no wonder he is confident. It's not a sure thing he will look THAT good at Chelsea though.
That will depend on the type of football they'll play.

Ricardo the keeper is pretty crap, though his good reactions makes him good on penalties.

The turkish defenders are mostly pretty good man to man, they're just really poorly organized but I guess credit to them, unlike the Czechs, for actually trying to play.

Wow a central defender through on goal. Not often you see that anymore.

But that's the kind of thing that when they finally happen, really open up a defence. Great run.

Its very weird how the ball ended up in the net, a combination of the defenders tackle and pepe's shot, great effort by him nonetheless.

Not everyday that a defender gets a canceled header goal, and then gets a goal after a couple of very good passes and a nice run.

Nuno Gomez is cursed.

Edit: just saw the post above me which says exactly the same thing.
