I spoke to a Liverpool player earlier, he said that Rooney was going to join them. When I asked how he knew that, he said that the manager had told them "rain is coming".

This is a Redknapp trick that is as old as the hills - it puts pressure on the chairman and gets the proletariat frothing at the mouth to sign a big name. He pulled the same stunt at West Ham and Portsmouth ("if we can get a couple of players in we could really push on" or similar was the general line used).
I think Tottenham really are 2 players away from challenging to win the league, provided those players were Messi and CRonaldo (Any two of Drogba, Tevez, and Rooney would do it too especially considering the damage to their rivals that would create).

Stak- we also need a world class DM, and a decent RB.

Hud is improving but is still a fair bit behind the rest.
Palacios has been woeful of late, I've no idea what to make of Sandro, yet he appears to be worse at tackling than Scholes, without showing the genius on the ball.

Hutton is better than Corluka but that's hardly impressive.

Badders - you are also at least one quality centre forward short.

I',m well aware of this.

Stak suggested we needed 2 attacking players to really further us as a club, i just highlighted some other positions.

A quality striker is imperative if not in jan, then certainly the summer.

unless Spurs were taking players from their rivals to strengthen, it's highly unlikely 3 players would be making the difference from chasers to champions.

I think I've just found a new best friend.

EDIT: news just in - it's a pro-Hellmuth Arsenal fan. This is really awesome.

Agreed, but I think if you got CR9 and Messi you'd be either favorites or close to it, and same with you getting, say, Drogba and Tevez (even if that isn't necessarily the optimal two players to take). You disagree?

I mean you guys aren't so very far away that adding two of the best players in the world (which in turn could deprive your rivals of their best players) wouldn't make you at least legitimate challengers for the title, imo.

I didn't necessarily mean that if you had the pick of the world you should choose two strikers (I actually agree with you, an elite DM and an elite CF would probably be the best idea), just that if you did add that you'd probably be the best team in the league.

I think most top flight clubs would challenge for a title with those two players.

Following an astonishing press conference yesterday in which Sir Alex Ferguson finally confirmed Wayne Rooney's intention to leave Manchester United, the 24-year-old is set to come out today with his own statement regarding the matter
Very interested in what he has to say.

Yep, and especially a team that's already as good as Tottenham.

Which was basically my point, it's kind of silly of Redknapp to say "If we got two signings, we would challenge for the title." and then ESPN to have a headline saying "OMG, Harry says Tottenham just two players short!" like it's some kind of massive statement.

It'll all pass off fairly quietly IMO, who would notice another unemployed person in Liverpool?

For those that haven't seen it, a pretty good article on Paul Stretford.
