Messi gets kicked more, but Ronaldo seems like he does since he makes a meal of it every time anyone breathes on him, lol. Half the time Ronaldo falls over before he can even get properly fouled, so Messi edges it for me. Speaking of that, is it even a debate still? I thought pretty much everyone agreed Messi is the best player in the world right now.

In a market where Andy Carroll is worth 35 million, what's Messi worth? Like, Canada + 15 million?

I'd say so, eh.

The Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano has criticised his former club Liverpool for their handling of his departure last summer and the exit of the striker Fernando Torres on Monday.

The Argentina international described as "sad" the manner in which players had to leave a club they had served well. Following Torres's £50m transfer to Chelsea on deadline day the Spaniard has been castigated by Liverpool fans for comments suggesting he is much better off at Stamford Bridge than he was at Anfield.

"I was not surprised about what happened with Fernando," Mascherano is quoted on espn.co.uk as saying today.

"When I left Liverpool, it looked as if I killed someone. It is sad that the people who did something important with the club have to leave by the back door.

"It is sad that the press and the club try to convince people that it is all the player's fault when the reality is that Liverpool didn't show the interest in keeping us in the club.

"The most important players didn't leave the club well. I spoke with Fernando and I said to him that he doesn't have to be worried because he did his best for the club.

"Even though he didn't win any trophies, he was a very important player and helped this club all the time."

Mascherano was offered a new contract by Rafael Benítez, the then Liverpool manager, last April but stalled on signing it. Four months later, after it became apparent he did not want to remain on Merseyside, he secured a £22m move to Barcelona

I think he is exaggerated in saying that the full backs become almost like wingers and he should really have emphasised that one of the midfield three will be anchoring for the most part.

I agree with the consensus that "wingers are dead" though,i've been saying that for a few years now,you can count the number of top quality out and out wingers in world football today on one hand.

Messi certainly seems to take a hell of a beating on a regular basis. Amazing he hasn't suffered more injuries the way opposing players try to take him down.

Meh, yes and no imo.

Wilson's written some interesting stuff about wingers and how a lot are now inverted or becoming more "inside wingers".

Here's on piece from the summer that some may recall: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog...de-out-wingers

If you go through his archive there are some more pieces about playmakers, 442, and 4213.

Probably old news to some I guess. For those who haven't read it, I definitely recommend checking it out and bookmarking his archive.

the guys at theScore.com do great work imo. They do daily podcasts, a daily link aggregator on the blog as well as a couple of TV shows and some more blogging.

They used to have EPL rights but got outbid by our equivalent of ESPN ..... unfortunately that channel is hockey is 98% of the time so all we get is the game and no analysis or shows/programming. AFter they lost EPL they picked up 3 Serie A games a week so I've been trying to watch the Serie A again for the first time since I was a kid.

main problem with Serie A - the stadiums look like **** when they're 70% empty. And the audio sync is not good on our broadcasts.

With a rotation of both playing time and positions between Mikel/Essien/Ramires and then also of Anelka/Malouda.

Their analysis/coverage is still 100x better then Sportsnet/TSN. It sucks they lost EPL rights, but The Score is the best sports channel in Canada ainec. TSN is just leafs/raptors/jays.

2p2 has been really messed up the past few weeks. I think they are having some network/server issues.
