I think its just a function of our collective ages. Kids in NA and I assume Asia just won't care about Celtic if their parents didn't support them.

Like, a 13 year old could have started watching the PL the season Aguero won City the title and that kid would have on average graduated College/University this year.

I fail to see what relevance knowledge (or lack of) of players has to do with it.

How many Shaktar or Slavia players could you name, bearing in mind they rank above Spurs in the club rankings.

Last season, Celtic topped their Europa League group, knocking out Lazio.
The previous season they knocked out RB Leipzig from the group stage.
They have a 60,000 seat stadium and average 57,000 and create an atmosphere that made Barcelona and Inter crap their pants.

All on lowly SPL money

The barrier for entry is being on TV though. People can easily find a Spurs game on TV. They can find ESPN talking about Spurs. Plenty of instagram/tiktok about a club like Spurs.

No one is doubting how big they are locally, but to compete with even Everton/Leicester/West Ham would be a monumental task.

I don't think hyping Celtic's Europa League performances over the last few years is the way to go about if you want to convince us they are good.

They haven't won a knockout tie in either europa league or champions league in like 20 years. Got beat 8-2 on aggregate by slavia prague this year as they finished solid last

He’s not saying they are good. He’s saying they are a massive club which they both are. He’s saying they’d be right up there behind the big 4 in a couple of years.

I disagree with him saying if they get another £100m per year for a couple of years they’d instantly be equal with Arsenal and Spurs.

Arsenal haven’t won the league in almost 20 years, they are also years away from winning it. They get the 7th highest revenue in world football, they have a massive wage bill to boot.

They’d defo replace the bottom fodder in a couple of seasons if not next but there is no evidence to suggest they’d somehow instantly leap frog your Leicesters, Evertons of this world to be right behind Utd, Chelsea, City and Plop.

He mentioned Celtic topping a group last year in the EL and knocking out Lazio as an achievement when Celtic's results in the EL have been objectively awful for a club that considers itself big

I don't necessarily disagree with them being big or whatever (although I think the british bias is strong here) but they have nothing to brag about in terms of european performances over the last few years

I took it as he was using that to establish his point that look what they can achieve on an SPL budget, they’ll be amazing with an EPL budget...

I mean, that's just a bad way of looking at things. We all know upsets happen in KO football. Overall, there are way more clubs with less resources than Celtic that have had EL/CL runs of late than Celtic should be happy with these runs.

Celtic are *historically* a big club. To catch up ~$500 million in resources takes so, so much these days. I genuinely think if Celtic and Brentford joined the PL next year, it would be a coin flip to which club is more successful in 5-10 years.

Partially.
They won’t be amazing, but they’ll be Spursy.

Anyone else watching Leicester on BT?
The commentary is about a second ahead of the action. They’re calling the goals before the ball has been struck. It’s weird

The combination of Vardy on form alongside Ian Nacho makes them look great.
Add in Maddison returning alongside Tielemans and they’re the Barcelona of the midlands

I don't think it is crazy at all to compare Celtic to Newcastle and Brentford to Brighton.

To be honest, and I'm biased here, Rangers are a better example for now. 45 Europa league matches in the past 3 seasons and they've only lost 6 of those. Won their group this year, going through it unbeaten and also qualified from the group last year. Have beaten Porto, Galatasaray, Braga, Feyenoord and Mitdjyland (hammered them 7-3), among others, and were unbeaten against Villareal and Benfica.

Obviously those aren't exactly the giants of European football but considering the budget involved it's a more than decent run, and many of the teams who were beaten went on to win their domestic leagues.

It was Sparta Prague who beat them, not Slavia. Which makes it worse!

Theme from Sparta FC.

Obviously Brentford against Celtic is a no brainer. Brentford will be gto, Celtic will be romantic exploitative.

This comparison is a stretch. Brighton also have more room to grow vs brentford. Sunderland and Newcastle are also horribly mismanaged clubs.

Don’t get me wrong, the Glasgow clubs would have a lot of catching up to do financially even compared to West Brom or Norwich. But to think that Brentford would be in a stronger financial position is pushing it (like a lot).

That's my point though. As you scale up, you can't **** up. Leeds have a good manager. They were a dominant Championship team pre promotion. If Celtic got relegated and Brentford became a PL mainstay, they're in a better position.

Neither of whom have been made insolvent and been relegated to the bottom of the football pyramid as a result.
