Yanks have the military at all sporting events I've seen. They have them at trophy ceremonies at the us open and what not.

We as a nation are not even remotely close to that. Yanks absolutely love it.

--

Anyway they aren't compulsory but if you're on tv/public eye etc you may as well wear one as a mark of respect to those who've died in the wars.

Walk around the city centre there is a stand on the day and you see the tubs here and there it different shops and what not but you barely see anyone wearing one. See a few of the big ones on the front of vans/buses/lorries etc

The game that's taking place on Remembrance Day should as a mark of respect be allowed to wear the Poppy's imo

You're implying that those who choose not to wear one don't respect those who have died which is wrong. No one should have to wear one or even be expected to wear one. No one should even notice when people don't.

Ah, the annual poppy discussion itt. There's no surer sign that it's time to get ready for winter

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been given a one-match touchline ban for being sent off against Burnley.

The Portuguese was sent to the stands by referee Mark Clattenburg for an incident "in or around the tunnel area during half-time" of the goalless draw.

The Football Association also fined him £8,000 and he will serve the ban for the game against Swansea on Sunday.

As for James McClean, lots of football fans are total ****ing morons and will abuse players for anything, regardless of whether or not they actually care about the issue or not. Stoke fans boo Aaron Ramsey for having had the temerity to get his leg broken by their brave captain. I imagine the McClean story has been blown out of proportion because of the lol Northern Ireland connection and its refusal to join the rest of Western Europe in the 21st century.
So you'll struggle to find me just one presenter/tv person without a poppy nevermind the five I asked for but of course there is no compulsion to wear them and people like McClean don't get abused for years on end (not just from football fans btw) because of their refusal to take part.

Open your ****ing eyes Bertie.

lol, no one notices when random people don't wear them. It's when public figures don't wear them it's noticed. They are on tv in the media etc

The news reporter that's on the telly tonight or this morning won't wear one to nip to the shops or go for a pint or what ever. The producers of the shows/camera men etc very likely won't be wearing them unless it's 13th.

The entire point of it is to remember and honour those who have died in order to protect our freedom. So putting a poppy on while being on tv or at some public event is hardly asking much.
11-02-2016 , 02:39 PM
lol at not being able to join the dots on the implications of having to wear one if you are in the public eye.

Not standing for the national anthem - especially in a foreign country - is imo very disrespectful. You're just leaving yourself open for abuse by some random patriotic homer.

Almost as bad as 'we should wear the poppy because Maggie defeated communism' haha.

Open your ****ing eyes Bertie.
I don't watch TV apart from the Food Network so I'll have to pass on listing five names, although I've yet to see Guy Fieri sport one. I do remember Jeremy Clarkson saying that he received no complaints after forgetting to wear a poppy once whilst presenting Top Gear - although I guess Jezza's brave Englishman credentials are not in doubt. There are also a few newsreaders who don't wear one iirc, but they usually release some big long statment about it which generates a certain amount of furore. I think if, say, the dude from the Antiques Roadshow didn't wear one then very few people would notice nor give a ****.

Does James McClean even get that much abuse?? Serious question.
Even the right wing tabloids haven't been too hard on him recently.

They won't though. I don't see anybody wearing them when I'm walking around the City. There is no way these public figures when they go out walking their dogs or what not go 'wait, i must put a poppy on because it's November' when they are in the public eye though they do.

Flick on the TV - Murray has one on his t-shirt. Flick channel the presenter has one on. Guys in the studio for the football have them on.

Anyways that's the last on the matter from me, CL has started.

I don't like Poppy's. Reminds me of a guy called poppy I used to know who ran a restaurant. One day when we were hanging out at my place, he peed on my couch. He was a dirty ****er, think his restaurant got shut down over a hygiene issue. His daughter was a good lay though, Audrey I think it was.

You don't get to decide the entire point of it on behalf of everyone. It is asking a lot of you don't agree with it. Rofl protect our freedom. Put it this way, my great grandfather fought in ww1 and never wore a poppy in his life. Nor do any of his descendants. Basically you are part of the problem in this country and the exact reason why we shouldn't be wearing the poppy.

Lol just read they are going to swallow any ban they receive. Absolute wankers. Hope they get banned for 5+ games to teach them a lesson that fascism is not welcome in football.

It's hyperbole but you know exactly what I mean.

What size of ban do you think is fair? Are you happy they're going to flaunt the ban and accept the consequences for purely political reasons (and don't try to claim its anything but, football teams didn't used to wear a poppy and no one minded)?
