Portugal finshed 3rd in their Euro 2016 group behind the footballing power houses of Hungary and Iceland. After their qualification to the knockout stage, Portugal beat Croatia after extra time and then Poland via penalties before winning their first match of the tournament in normal time, the semi final vs Wales.

International tournaments should be completely forgotten when judging footballing talent, as they're high variance luck-fests. Germany have crushed international tournaments and even so, they're probably running above ev, actually they're definitely running above ev.

Ye, the last 12 years of International footbal success between Portugal and England are not even close enough to be worth a comparison.

HH, you didn't answer. Who do you think is the best english player and how is that player better than Pepe?

I would put quite a few players ahead of him, but none of them are defenders - Smalling and Stones could potentially be better, but both of them are young.

To me that's kind of the issue. As all the players are playing in the best league everyone seems to think English players are good.

When really, if you look at them individually and collectively they aren't that good. Where do England realistically rank?

Got to be top 16?

These fancy foreign managers coming over seem to think they're good though, they're starting most of them.

Playing with better players though

Hart shipped out. Saved England last night.

Rooney dropped. Sturridge not fancied. Cahill needs replaced. Walcott shouldn't be playing for England or Arsenal.

Stones i'll give you that. The Spurs lot are doing well but vastly over rated for the most part.

Lallana and Sterling doing pretty well with their clubs.

My theory is that the England team is fine, but all the media pressure and everything gets them to choke.

Also some bad luck.

Also the Premier League is so well respected that the English players that do well there tend to get overrated. Like the Iceland players were saying that they were playing against their heroes or some ****.

I'm not making much sense but whatever.

Pepe is hugely underrated in England because he's as mad as a box of frogs. No England player in the current squad is a better player than Pepe. John stones is probably the best talent potential wise in the squad but will be hounded once he makes a mistake by knob ex pros and pundits.

I know the spud brigade will be out for blood after I say this, but alli and kane are overrated to an extent as well which is the same for our english boys as tbf.

I really dont care how good Pepe is as a footballer - he is a total scumbag. The things that man has done on the pitch in a behavioural manner is incredible. There's times when I think he needs to be committed.

Lol at Kane and Alli being overrated - overhated by jelly arse, West Ham and LOLSEA fans - but not overrated.

You could say he's the Portuguese John Terry

Marty,

Regarding a new android phone.

High-end: The google pixel aka google 7 is the best android phone on the market, comes with unlimited storage but is currently on pre-order only and is £599

Mid-range: Next there is the LG G4 and Nexus 6. Both of which have similar spec and are less than £300. NB the Nexus 6 has a 6 inch screen.

Low-range: The best, cheapest android phone is the ZTE Blade v7. You can buy one of these for <£150

Samsung S8, out in spring next year, is guaranteed to be the fiercest android phone to date. They have zero choice but to make it extra-beast after the Note 7 fiasco.

Big Sam and then Southgate .... im would laugh real hard if they gave the job full time to Southgate.

I know hes not won much lately but Wenger at the end of the season would be a great choice imo.
We are going through, and tarnishing, decent managers at quite a rate.
The sooner everyone wakes up to the plain fact that the manager isn't the problem, the better.

We are picking from a tiny pool. It would be a bigger pool if we didn't have a ton of mediocre players from all over the world in the PL. The great foreign players do a great job of helping players progress but there's simply not enough young English talent playing with them.

We would just be selecting from a larger pool of players that are mediocre at international level. We need to improve the coaching of kids across the board, which should create a higher standard of player for clubs to select from IMO.

The real reason England are so bad is English player's priorities:

Premier League>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Champions League>>FA Cup>>>>>>England>>>League Cup>>>>Europa League.

Basically, playing for England yields very little chance of actually winning anything, no chance of earning any extra money, while having every chance of being hung out to dry for every mistake.
