I doubt he would ever have signed for you in fairness. He was wanted by literally everyone.

Would be close between Sanchez and Hazard for me.

I have just seen on Twitter that Moyes's original ManYoo contract would still have two years left to run if he had not been brutally and unjustifiably sacked.

He's said on many occasions that he was close to signing for Spurs and didn't because we tailed off at the end of the season.

But sure, it's probably bollocks.

You could write a book on all the **** Hazard said during that transfer window. Spurs didn't have a shot.

He said it since though too.

No idea why people are dismissing us as never having a chance, not like we haven't signed big players before when we were ****ing terrible.

I think it's probably more accurate to say he said it once or twice, and it was reported on many occasions.

And the reason he didn't sign for Spurs is Chelsea offered him £200k a week.

At the end of the day doesn't really matter if we were close or not, he didn't sign for us (and neither did Willian, though that's not quite as big a miss).

Rebrov was a pretty big get at the time, but not so much in hindsight.
05-22-2017 , 01:58 PM
Gazza
Klinsmann
Berbatov
Ardiles
Modric

Doesn't really matter though, very different club in most of those times to now. Even more amusing to me nowadays how people still talk of us like we're a joke. We knew our place for the first 15+ years of the prem, we're in a much better way now.

What would Levy need to be offered to sell Alli or Kane this summer? Is there a sum that would get it done?
05-22-2017 , 02:03 PM
I would add Van der Vaart to that list of relative studs purchased by Spurs at close to peak.

I'd guess, Kane £100m Ali £80m

Question for (mainland) Europeans, who is higher rated Lukaku or Kane?

I actually opened this exact conversation on another board, answers (among the non Spurs/Arsenal/Everton/Liverpool fans) tended to be pretty close.

There was a discussion here, obv went along team lines:

I think its more. We would only take that if they agitated for a move imo

Coutinho whilst tidy and with perhaps the best long range shot of any of them isn't as good at opening a team up with running. Hazard and KDB are just frightening when on form. I can't think of a team in the league that would take either Coutinho or Eriksen over the others if there was some sort of draft. They should be more compared to Mata or Cazorla.

Mane is more of a fair comparison. I am not convinced his relative lack of technical or passing ability compared to Hazard/KDB doesn't put him below them though he is perhaps even scarier on form running a defence ragged.
While I agree with the rest, you're really underrating cazorla as a player. Hes not an AM any More, he's basically just an always injured Xabi. We win about 80% of games with him and 50% without. He is our midfield.

Barring Gazza who was 25 years you haven't signed any big name player who had the option to go a big club. When United wanted Berbatov we got him, when Chelsea wanted Modric he tried to leave etc.

Then it's even more of a miracle how good our squad currently is!
05-22-2017 , 02:48 PM
course its a miracle. i invite you to imagine where you'd be if alli and kane hadn't turned into kaka and fat ronaldo overnight, and you instead had janssen or soldado or whoever up front

you'd be like one of those suarezless brent teams, 65% possession, 21 shots every game, 5th place finish (obv you'd still finish ahead of jose)

Really difficult to say. It's difficult I'd imagine the 'players' head would have to be turned in order for the negotiations to kick off.

Squad isn't good though, no depth.

So at FB/WB in the semi final for example.

I think the Kane number is well short.
