Did my brains in laying Brazil in every round, especially vs Colombia. Jumped ship and backed them vs Germany. Also laid Germany in the final. Basically had less fun than Roy Hodgson.

I would actually be down for this... similar to the Euro 2016 playoff pool I ran.

RULES

$20 per team

16 entries

$320 total prizepool.

Winner $160
Runner/Up $60
Semi-Finalists $20
"Ultimate Loser" $60

Ultimate loser is the team who loses in the round of 16, who has the team that beat them lose in the quarters, and then that team is defeated in the semi-finals, and then that team loses in the final.

For example, the ultimate loser in the 2014 World Cup would have been Greece, since

Greece lost to Costa Rica in R16
Costa Rica lost to Netherlands Q/Fs
Netherlands lost to Argentina in S/F's
Argentina lost to Germany in the final.

If anyone is interested, post here. Im happy to collect via Stars if people like, I have run pools like this in the past and sold action in the marketplace with no issues. Dont send yet though, I would prefer to see if there is enough interest before organising funds.

Cheers

Will leave these up for a few more days. If we only get ~8 entries we can just do two teams per entry ($10 per team as opposed to $20, so prizepool and payouts halved essentially).

Yeah 500-1 in September.... I mean Leicester making a run at it the same year as Spurs is kinda funny, especially if they win it, but I'd rather be 2 points behind them this season than 2 behind Chelsea last season or City two seasons ago (LolPlololop).

I'm not an Arsenal fan but I do get bored of how fickle their fans/fans in general are.

One game/variance.
you must be new here

And we are all glad it's Spurs who are two points behind and not city, Arsenal or Chelsea (lolplololop).

Roman needs to do the right thing and keep lvg in the league.

Citeh to win league seems like something that looks a good bet, similar to west brom going down 3 weeks ago. Will resist temptation due to shackles on the Leicester wagon.

There is definitely something fishy about their performance levels in general.

Sure this has been mentioned at some point but claude looks unwell. Looks like he's 75% through mutation into a chelsea fan. Could be a great signing for next season's fancast.

Kante out for at least 2 games, damn.
02-29-2016 , 10:37 AM
heh thats like the only "meaningful" injury they have had this season
02-29-2016 , 11:11 AM
which is nearly a miracle with that thin of a squad
02-29-2016 , 12:16 PM
It's not really a thin squad though. Morgan, Huth, Simpson et al are journeyman at best, and not exactly difficult to replace.

From what I've seen, they only really have to avoid injuries to Vardy, Mahrez and Kante (and perhaps Drinkwater) before it significantly impacts their system.

The transfer window is shut - if Morgan or Huth are injured, who is the replacement? They might be journeymen but they're top of the league and their alternatives are likely to be worse.

Wasilewski looked OK against Spurs in the FA Cup (ok he's not much of a right back...), as did most of their reserves over the two games.

Their reserves are obviously not as good by definition, but the drop-off in quality is not that big until you get to their three best players, who are key to their whole system.

Wes Morgan has only played for 2 teams in his ~14 year career with a short loan spell at Kidderminster where he played 5 games. For Nottingham Forest he played 352 games and so far 170 for Leicester. He was also in the Football Manager team of the decade for the Football league. He is anything but a journeyman.

It's not as simple as saying these guys are average, just replace them with someone else who is average and we can carry on as normal. They're vastly experienced players who fit together well to form a good team.

You're massively oversimplifying the difficulty of creating a team.
02-29-2016 , 01:44 PM
People should stop assuming that average=replacement. Average is used to basically insult players and that's idiotic since average players do have value
