Remember back in the day when Eli didn't have any SB rings?

First he was Eli.

Now he's ELIte.

Soon, we'll be referring him to ELIteness.

Sorry for going back, but this is pretty unfair Needle. ELIteites have offered numerous substantive arguments in this thread and others time and again. Yeah theres a ton of trolling, but we're right so we are entitled.

The reactive ELIte backlash often carries far weaker and less substantive arguments than our side does. I mean people kill him on career stats when everyone conceded he wasn't very good his first 3-4 years and has improved every year since.

What will it take for ELIte to become a HOFer?

If he puts up top-10 stats most years for the rest of his career but never rangs again or MVPs or breaks a major record, where does that leave him? Chances compared to the Rapist?

in all honesty as long as he doesnt kill someone he's prob easily a hall of famer now

So two SB wins is guaranteed in Canton now? Standards would slip pretty badly if Eli slipped in immediately. Above-average stats through most of your career? nah, not necessary.

Archie has never gotten involved in his sons' careers now, so I can't see why he would anytime in the future. He hasn't even said a word about Peyton recently. I admire his stand-alone attitude.

Also, winning 2 rangs for a Rooney or Mara probably trumps being ever considered better than the 4th or 5th best in the league any given year in terms of HOF considerations.

If Eli Manning retired RIGHT NOW, he probably wouldn't get in just because enough voters would say his career wasn't long enough; kinda like Terrell Davis.

But c'mon, does anyone really think he's not getting into the Hall of Fame?

Unless something catastrophic happens like getting killed or breaking a leg ala Theismann, Eli should play at least 5 more years. Tack on 20,000ish yards and 125ish TD's to his career totals, and he's a Hall of Famer w/ the resume he already has right now.

How many 2-time Super Bowl winning QBs are *not* in the HoF that are eligible?

Right now, only one, so yeah, I guess so. It's just funny that Eli could go to the HOF without ever even being considered a top-3 QB in the league at any point in his career (not saying it won't happen, but it's certainly possible). A lot of crappy years, a bunch of above-average years, 2 playoff runs, immortalized.

I think Jim Plunkett is the only one not in the hall.

Just casually passing it off as 2 playoff runs is silly.

In the 1st one, he beat #1,2 and 4 seed on road and then 18-0 Pats in SB. In 2nd one he beat 15-1 and 13-3 team on road and then the Pats for 2nd time in SB. Giants were both underdogs in those 2 games. (voters love a good underdog) He's twice denied BB and Brady winning a 4th ring. He's QB of most famous SB play off all time. His throw to Manningham was probably a top 20 SB play of all time. He was SB MVP 2x.

Everything added up together puts him in the Hall.

Yes, I was referring to Plunkett. And you're basically proving my point, they were playoff runs... which every SB-winning team has. But both of those Giants teams struggled in the regular season, and weren't considered contenders. I'm not dismissing anything Eli or the Giants did in those postseasons, they are thoroughly impressive... but they were not consistent with their performance prior to reaching the postseason. "Getting hot" is not a crazy term to describe those teams. Coughlin was on the media hot seat prior to beating the Jets. Now he's a NY god.
