I think they realised coming in that no one was fancying them for the first time so there would be no disappointment at their knockout, so they decided to boss everybody in group stages.

Only thing that worries me is their loss vs netherlands, did they get their mandatory choke out of the way?

So the Australian selectors have deferred the tough decision of dropping either Smith or Labuschagne. If we look at their inability and ineptitude to tap Warner on the shoulder for red ball cricket, will they follow suit here and decide to make no decision?

And what’s with teams scoring 399 rather than 400?

NED require a further 314 runs with 2 wickets remaining. Yet again England will rise up the table when they’re not even playing. They will probably jump to 6th if they beat Sri Lanka tomorrow.

ENG 156 (33.2), their WC hanging by a thread. Can they bowl out Sri Lanka?

England could be on 2 points after 5 matches. Their next two opponents are India then Australia.

The less said about that England performance, the better.

156 on the most batting friendly pitch in india, where 300 is difficult to defend.

GG England

Two run outs and Rashid getting out in the most boneheaded way icing on the cake

I wonder if this is just mental fatigue more than anything. WC coming on the back of a big summer including the Ashes. Jonny Bairstow too - I'd probably not select him because of how big those Ashes were for him and the likelihood that he couldn't produce at the WC and needed a rest. And tbh - not sure how they are selecting him outside of being the keeper.

PAK 270, not a bad total but South Africa should chase it down. A lot of contributions by the batters and a few partnerships but nothing overly prolonged.

Marco Jansen with 3 wickets draws level with Zampa on 13 for this WC.

SA 0/30 (2.0), decent start

SA 7/250, all recognised batters out. But only 21 runs required from 58 balls.

Pakistan have been commendable but a few more runs would have helped. Now they need another wicket and quickly.

there's something magical about watching highly skilled athletes do something they are crap at to try to scramble over the line and save the day

an outfield player having to go in goal because the backup keeper got sent off the only other example i can think of off top of head

OMG, everyone needs to see this 9th wicket, Haris Rauf c&b.

11 runs required, 1 wicket left.

SA have only won by 1 wicket 5 times, just twice away from home.

Only 6 WC matches have been won by 1 wicket.

Exciting game for once.

Don't know why Maharaj is trusting Shamsi so much he can barely hold the bat.

South Africa win thanks to a garbage ball down leg side from Nawaz that Maharaj put away.

Pakistan just miss out on increasing their gap to England.

Tomorrow night is the battle for 3rd place between Australia and New Zealand.

Why would you have the field so spread out that Shamsi can get an easy single off first ball.

Anyways good game.

I would love to know why the scorecard shows Iftilhar bowling 3 overs when he only bowled 2.4, Shadab bowled the first 2 balls of the innings before he went off injured.

It's clear if you get early wickets and South Africa is chasing near or over 300 they will be in trouble. Hopefully odds are not too strong on an India v SA final. Reckon odds are 3-1 India and then Aus, NZ and SA all even money at about 10-1 to make the final.

Odds on india winning were 2.24:1 last i saw on betfair.

So odds on them making the final are significantly less.
