We don't have another keeper in the squad (It is where Handscomb might have been better than S. Marsh as the reserve batsman). A REALLY part timer such as Finch wouldn't cut the mustard, particularly when we are cutting Carey for keeping mistakes as opposed to weak batting.
Agree with Maxwell not coming in at 4. My biggest peeve with cricket in general for ODI cricket is the lack of flexibility in batting lineups. Australia should absolutely have Maxwell next man in no matter what after 25-30 overs, in the same way England would send in Buttler and Stokes ahead of Root and Morgan in that type of situation.
A prime example was the 480 game.

Root bats at 7 below Buttler, Morgan and even Ali because the situation suggests it (to be fair on 300 after 34 overs you could send me in and end up in an ok situation). If it means Khawaja bats 6 so be it.
It is no different then certain bowling conditions meaning that a bowler who would usually bowl 10 is reduced to bowling a couple overs (such as a left arm finger spinner not bowling to a set Chris Gayle on a small ground).
