Lot of talk of ODI cricket being dead 4 and 8 years ago, but this WC has been pretty great.

I reckon if Starc stays fit then Oz may have at least as much chance as India - especially if people play him like the WI did at the end (ie try to smash him when they could play him off and then block him when needing about 3 a ball).

Still don't rate us. Finch still a liability, 5th bowler is iffy on the wrong day.

Very fortunate to win and quite the equity swing for making the next round.

Still have England and India above the rest.

I know he's like the best hitter in world cricket but no idea what Russell was thinking getting out like that against Starc. Just mindless.

It's like B-Mac in the first over of the final last time.

Great to see Starc bowling like that again though.

I just think it was a farce that it was even being contemplated last Australian summer to think about dropping Starc.

Agree about Finch but he's captain and apparently leads the run scoring for the team this year or something. Selectors probably should wise up to it but there has certainly been instances in the past where teams have carried their below par performances of their captains. He is a good fielding captain though which probably also saves him.

No rain days for the WC in England.

It's a bold choice of strategy Cotton, lets see if it pays off.

Anyone else think that Carey should get dropped for the next game after dropping Kohli just then?

I have one question and one question only - whose decision was it to send Khawaja in front of Maxwell when I assume the asking rate was over 9 and Khawaja is very much in the same mould of player as Smith? The only person I'll accept is Finch because if JL had anything to do with it his time as head coach won't be a long one.

We don't have another keeper in the squad (It is where Handscomb might have been better than S. Marsh as the reserve batsman). A REALLY part timer such as Finch wouldn't cut the mustard, particularly when we are cutting Carey for keeping mistakes as opposed to weak batting.

Agree with Maxwell not coming in at 4. My biggest peeve with cricket in general for ODI cricket is the lack of flexibility in batting lineups. Australia should absolutely have Maxwell next man in no matter what after 25-30 overs, in the same way England would send in Buttler and Stokes ahead of Root and Morgan in that type of situation.

A prime example was the 480 game.

Root bats at 7 below Buttler, Morgan and even Ali because the situation suggests it (to be fair on 300 after 34 overs you could send me in and end up in an ok situation). If it means Khawaja bats 6 so be it.

It is no different then certain bowling conditions meaning that a bowler who would usually bowl 10 is reduced to bowling a couple overs (such as a left arm finger spinner not bowling to a set Chris Gayle on a small ground).

Wade would have made a good choice too.

Both West Indies and Pakistan really blew a great chance to beat Australia Cricket: Random Discussion Thread

This Aussie team not a patch on previous versions and I’m not tooooo worried about them winning it. India have looked ruthless

Blows my mind he’s not in the squad, even just as a batsman. His form this past summer was insane

Yeah and M Marsh seems like he's getting a recall. Like I said the sooner JL has to answer for these choices the better Aus cricket will be but sadly that may not result in a good WC performance.
