For us to declare before tea one of Cook or Trott has to get out so that one or more of KP, Colly, Bell and Prior can give it the long handle for a good 30 overs and make a run-a-ball ton to get the lead considerably over 300. No way we set them a 5 /over run chase. Right now the Aussies are still the only team which can realistically say that they have a chance to win this. If things go ridiculously well Strauss might declare at tea just for the morale/psychological boost of making Australia bat out the final session but assuring the draw, beyond all doubt, is England's sole priority.
It been so long since England left the Gabba with the upper hand that getting anything from the match would've been seen as a bonus at the start of play.
