From the Cricinfo commentary:

"The Pattinson family makes a rare slice of history today. James and his brother Darren, who represented England, will become the first siblings to play Test cricket for different nations in 112 years - disregarding Akmal family jokes, that is."

LOL

Why is channel 9 always trying to sell stuff during the broadcast?

Today's been one of the best days in Australian cricket for a while. Starc could end up being anything - he's averaged low 140's today but the general consensus has been that he has bowled within himself and should be getting up to the 150's with a bit more confidence. Anyway he is going to be a gun, 200cm left armers who bowl fast don't grow on trees. Pattinson has also looked good.

Ideally the bowling attack for the next ashes should be cummins, pattinson, stark, s warne. We only need one or two more decent bats and it's game on bitches

Don't watch NZ too often, but every time I do, Vettori seems to always outbat his top 6. Is my impression askew?

Confirmed. I had to spend 2 days in Indore last year. The people were nice but other than that, there was absolutely nothing to commend the place.

Lol classic line from the kiwis commentator an hour ago being shocked not only that the cricket wasn't on at someone's place of work but that a kiwis was in a position of authority...

Brickie if i had to guess averages over the last 10 years without looking i would say vettori would be behind only Fleming astle and Ross Taylor at a guess... maybe brenden mccullum too...

just another Victorian shafted by Australian selectors . I think he is pretty much a proffessional T20 player now, which is a pity cause he was pretty entertaining coming in off the long run and bowling heat.

Channel 9 has covered the domestic cricket for ages over here, but only rarely the international tours.

When Channel 7 got the rights to the 2005 Ashes series (The pyjama portion anyway) they had a classic piss-pull of their consistant attempts to sell stuff.

Its not just the cricket either. They attempted to sell signed rugby jerseys during their coverage of the WC and IIRC have done the same thing for Olympic and tennis coverage as well.

They got Boycott out on channel 9 one summer and when Richie Benaud tried to sell some photo, Boycott goes "399 for that .... its a photograph .... what a rip off.". Boycott hasnt been seen much on 9 since then.

Thats nothing anyway. Just wait till they start doing the cross promotion where they make Richy Benaud and Bill Lawry talk about whats happening on 'Farmer wants a wife' and 'Dancing with the Stars'.

There was a great conversation between IIRC Michael Slater and Mark Taylor a few years ago, talking about Android apps for I think Channel 9 or something. All paraphrased obviously.

MS: Remember you can keep up to date with all 9 programming by downloading our free app on both the iPhone and Android systems, isnt that right Mark?
MT: Yeah thats right, amazing stuff this Androids and Aliens and Vampires, really exciting stuff
MS: ........
MS: You have no idea what Im talking about do you
MT: Not the foggiest.

Also, if anyone hasn't done so yet, the 12th Man CD's are complete gold. Basically one guy imitating all the Channel 9 commentators as well as "Wide World of Sports" over the last 20 years. Its might be somewhat offensive to some, but there are some fairly cracking jokes over the last 8 CD's he put out over time...

Vettori is such a legend, biiiig heart.

He's probably had the best batting average in that team for the last 4 years or so, and when you consider that he always makes his runs when his team is in deep ****, it's even more impressive.

He doesn't get to make an easy double hundred against Bangladesh on a flat track, that's for the Taylors and Ryders of the side..

I remember when Chris Martin scored his 100th test run, Ian Smith got all excited like he'd just scored a century in one innings.

Just saw this on Andy Zaltzman's twitter...

STAT ALERT: Test batting averages since 1 Jan 2007: Ponting 39.4; Vettori 40.0. Vettori edges it in wickets taken as well.

Yeah, I first heard this guy about back in about 1994, I think the one I heard was called Wired World of Sports. Absolutely f***ing gold, laugh out loud funny. I would totally recommend it, although it's definitely in the NSFW category

partnership finished on 99*, making it the 3rd highest 10th wicket stand ever, and not even the best by the Windies

I knew about Viv Richards and Michael Holding against us at Old Trafford; Viv's 189* is often ranked as one of the all time great ODI knocks.

But apparently the unlikely partnership of Saeed Ajmal and Mohammed Aamir put on 103 against NZ a couple of years ago in Abu Dhabi.
