I agree probably shouldn't have gave him out but DRS allows him to do it.

There was massive doubt on that Williamson lbw how an umpire can give that with benefit of the doubt is highly dubious

It reeks of riggage or an ump wanting to get a day off on day 5, disgusting

Hitting him at the waist. Pretty bad initial decision to give him out.

Starc one was a BS original decision too

They should be given not out comfortably then the review justifying the umpires call

Umps are overcompensating here or are biased to the home side

No avoiding day 5 with the weather here in Brisbane. And with that said, the players come off for bad weather and I'm not sure they will get on again today.

Not waist as he was sort of down sweeping. Probably the equivalent of hitting him just above the knee roll if he was standing up.

Just going off on a tangent for a second, but here are some interesting thoughts from Chris Rogers about the psychological effect of playing the short ball and fielding in close at short leg after being hit in the head and following the death of Phillip Hughes.

I just find it interesting that someone who faces up to 140km+ bowlers can be so afraid under the lid at short leg.

Talking of deaths in cricket, I take it that the ICC are just going to wait until the inevitable umpire death in a major match before they offer them any protection from being hit.

They don't need it. They are standing the best part of 25 metres from the bat. The only thing that they can't really avoid is the deviation of the non-striking batsman when the striking batsman smacks it back at them - however, normally the non-striker is able to get out the way. I guess it may all come down to training these umpires up to avoid the cricket ball.

I'm kind of surprised more bowlers don't get destroyed in their follow through. They're super close, bats/batters are getting better at hitting the ball harder and they're sort of off balance... Seems like just a matter of time...

Two worst injuries I have seen/been a part of were in the same game.

First one was a top edge under the grill for a few broke teeth off of a spinner (I was the spinner)

Second was a bowler just copping one flush in the face falling over his in follow through.

Not much you can do about the second one I think without severely obstructing/agitating the bowler.

I do think the batting grill will come further around towards the neck over time.
