Totally, it's amazing when you think how many said he shouldn't even start the series.

wp England, amazing. Repaying with interest a lot of those humiliations at the hands of Warne & McGrath.

Standout players: Bell, KP, Broad, and I think Bresnan should get a mention too.

Ugh, just looked up the schedule and it looks like England's next Test match is in Sri Lanka, March 26th next year. Unless I'm missing something.

There's 3 test matches against pakistan in Dubai/Abu Dhabi before that. Not sure of the dates

2013 looks fun we have Australia in the summer followed by Australia in the winter.

Really looking forward to our schedule next year.

A couple of tricky series v Pak and SL, what should be a banker series v WI followed by SA here and culminating in a tour to India. I think this will be a very thorough examination of our credentials as world Nr 1. The only disappointment is that we're only programmed in for 3 tests v SA.

Hopefully they'll be able to put a decent team out by then

Actually, what am I saying. Back-to-back whitewashes would be much more satisfying

ireland england today. few debutants. only squad selection i disagreed with was borthwick- guys talented but too inexperienced as of yet.

rest are ready, borthwick plays though- interesting to see how he goes-especially as they must want to take him this winter on the subcontinent.

stokes, taylor and borthwick debut. ireland puts us in.

ICC Test Team of the Year: Cook Amla Trott Sachin Sangakkara (wk/capt) de Villiers Kallis Broad Swann Steyn, Anderson Zaheer (12th man)

bit of a strange team given sangakkara doesn't even keep these days and broad was crap during the period that the team is based on.

Yeah, agree with andy, ICC team is a bit WTF.

Also strange, England are resting KP for the ODIs against India

won't matter though, weather is probably gonna be super crappy anyway.

Strange to drop him after he regained his old form. I don't think Pietersen even plays county cricket, and England have a light winter schedule. England simply don't care about ODIs I guess, or a subtle way to drop KP from the ODI squad

Probably the team care more about the ODIs than a lot of English cricket fans. Dunno about others, but for me most a Test match usually means that, even if I'm not going, I block the week out to follow it on the telly. OTOH, the endless stream of meaningless ODIs are something to check the score if and when I remember.

But yeah, it is strange for KP not to play considering we only have the 5 ODIs here, and 7 in India between now and New Year. Would have thought Cook would want to put out the best possible team.

meh pietersen tends to pick up injuries and i think england have made a decision to keep him injury free and fresh so that when he does play he is raring to go and completely motivated.

i guess they're just trying to prolong his career because they realise his importance to the team.

The England ODI team without KP is so uninteresting. I'm surprised Prior didn't make it into the team of the year.

I don't really know anyone who cares about one day cricket. You win/lose and there's a game 2 days later. It seems far too random to really care. I hope we win but I doubt I'll watch a game.

The tests on the other hand I was watching even while I was on holiday in Finland. Test cricket owns.

Considering more people watch the ODI World Cup than any other form of cricket, I don't get how you can say "I don't really know anyone who cares about one day cricket".

Clearly, a lot of people do. The ratings for this format prove that. Some of the greatest games I can remember are ODIs: the Aus-SA 434 game, The desert storm, 200* game, Ind-Pak 2003 game, the tie game between Eng-India this world cup, Aus-SA world cup tie, Gilly's WC final blitz against SL etc...

I can't get into a ODI like I can with a test match. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?
