It's a world cup not champions trophy. Gotta have more teams.
I'd be down with two groups of 7 or even 8, and then IPL style playoffs. The rankings, and when the cut-off is, could mean that 3 or the best 4 are in the same group but w/e, they are playing enough games to get through if they play well enough.

Plus, I don't mind seeing minnows get hammered and you get great games between then sometimes.

Not up for tiny groups. Lose a toss and have a bad day, have a wash-out and that's it.

This is fine too. But we need more teams. That's the long and the short of it.

What language do the Indian players talk to each other in?

I think what we are going to see with this match today is NZ being out of its depth.

NZ doing its best to lose this game. Let's dig in and make 200 and defend it like it is 1992!

Steve Waugh coaching Aus in the Ashes and now commentating. We going to be seeing more of him on the cricket scene now I wonder? And is this because of his brother being quite prominent in the media and quite recently in the Australian cricket set-up as a selector at the same time as doing his commentating duties.

Does Ross Taylor even practice against any spin in the nets?

It is embrassing more like it - at least this is the first game and shows the two remaining countries of what not to do in a semi final.

--------------

I know I said that India should pick more seamers than spinners but of course NZ is the exception to this.

7 an over - 237
8 an over - 253
9 an over - 269
10 an over - 285

Need 9 an over imo.

Lol NZ and Ross Taylor - Ross you just forced your captain to play a false shot because you couldn't hit it off the square and when you should have taken the fall.

Generally hindi.

Typically 9-10 players in the team speak it. In this team only Vijay Shankar wouldn't know hindi because hes from tamil nadu and its not spoken there.

Happy if we chase under 250 here but we cant play this team in the finals if we get there.

Shami or Kuldeep for Chahal (cant hv 2 spinners turning the ball in to Warner or Stokes)

Jadhav for Karthik..

If New Zealand can't resume their innings and India have only 20 overs to face, they will need 148 to win.
What do we think?

I think 148 in 20 is fair

148 in t20 gets chased rough the same amountbof time as 248 in odis (what they were on target for)

Interested in seeing the stats. 148 seems much tougher.

I did a quick search on cricinfo and in the last 5 years 245-255 in ODIs has been chased 22/41 and 145-150 in T20Is has been chased 17/30 so they do look similar. It's a small sample size though and also includes a number of games between minor nations so it's certainly not definitive but I think it's at least close.

I think 30 overs 192 is the worst

It means we get 16 less overs to score 20 less runs lol.

reducing it to 20 overs is too high variance for India. I recon they'd want to just come back tomorrow and face the full 50 overs.

There's plenty of rain forecast for tomorrow. Currently looks like there's time to have some sort of result but it could be rained off.

Then what happens? India go through as the higher finishing side?

I'm not sure what the rule is, but in some English one day tournaments they have a bowl off in the indoor academy nets.
