Not sure I agree with you. With USF's kicker, AU's greater overall talent, and Cox's likelihood of FUBARING in the final moments, I think it might be a good decision.
Cox's chances of screwing up aren't high enough to warrant running the clock down.

The fact that USF's kicker is bad is why they should play it out. Even if they do turn it over, their kicker won't be able to make a kick until the ball is on AU's 10 or 15 yard line. AU should capitalize on their overall talent and outplay the defense and hopefully avoid overtime.
