I don't anticipate today's games affecting much in here. You can pretty much shuffle the top 5 however you like.

1 Alabama (1) The next 3 games make or break their season.
2 Clemson (6) Looks like their offense is back.
3 Washington (5) I didn't pay much attention when they played directional cupcakes Idaho, Portland State, and Rutgers.
4 Ohio State (2) Struggled with Indiana a little bit. Little bit. They can't all be as easy as Rutgers.
5 Michigan (4) They won't all be as easy as Rutgers.
6 Texas A&M (3) Needed a seventh turnover in overtime to win at home. Best player was hurt.
7 Louisville (8) They have two straight teams who've beaten Notre Dame, then blanks until Houston. Probably need to make Duke look like Rutgers on Friday to hold position.
8 Wisconsin (9) tOSU coming to their home--this is their big chance to look less silly than they did against Michigan.
9 Tennessee (12) This may seem silly to move them higher but overcoming 6 turnovers to take an SEC road game to OT is actually a lot harder than it looks.
10 Virginia Tech (21) Nobody watched these guys manhandle the UNC team that just beat FSU, but they've looked better every week.
11 Baylor (14) Meh.
12 Boise State (15) Remember they beat Washington State
13 Nebraska (16) Not looking good that they "only" edged Oregon at home
14 Houston (7) Thanks for trying, Cougs, you know you'll have to beat another triple-option team when you play Tulane in November, right?
15 Florida State (U) Once again they come out like gangbusters in the second half
16 Miami (13) Well, they didn't give up which is more than I could say about them for several years
17 Florida (17) Bravely fighting the system!
18 Oklahoma (18) Why is it so easy to root against these guys? Seriously, they're just like other people.
19 West Virginia (20) Yeah, these guys are really undefeated.
20 Ole Miss (22) On a bye week, their quarterback rushed the field at a high school game to joing a bench-clearing fight with his younger brother. Class!
21 Western Michigan (24) They already beat two big 10 teams.
22 Colorado (19) Losing to USC is actually not a crime
23 Arkansas (10) I think the word you're looking for is "hapless"
24 Auburn (U) Yeah I know; I didn't expect this either. Technically, they've only lost to two top ten undefeated teams and are still in the SEC East race.
25 Washington State (U) Yeah I know; I didn't expect this either. Expected it to be Cal, actually.

Out:

Stanford (11) Bwahahaha, that was pretty funny the last two weeks.
UCLA (23) I'm pretty sure they lost to the non-RichRod Arizona
North Carolina (25)

As the resident VT fan I think 10 is a bit high, but they were quite unlucky in their loss to Tennessee by losing 4 fumbles iirc. The win over UNC was also in a hurricane, and UNC has been a pass-heavy team this season so that hurt UNC disproportionately. If they beat Miami they will be set up for the ACCCG

I'm going to throw Michigan a 1st place vote to encourage more teams to win by 70+

Yeah that's reasonable but that whole section of the mid-strength teams had a rough week. Sagarin actually has them 11th behind Auburn, Ole Miss, and LSU, and I'm forcing 2-loss teams to have a resume outside of the losses.

I'm also giving VT more Tennessee cred than I did at the time they played.

Guys I've got some bad news. The tenacious Wake Forest defense has brought an end to the Amba Etta-Tawo Heisman train. Not much you can do when you're up against a unit as good as that.

Louisville is literally right there. I would expect them to be favored vs Michigan and Washington every time. Maybe even Clemson still if it was a neutral site game

Hi Tom; long time no see. Do you think Ohio State needs to try to stay humble heading to Wisconsin?

I realize you said alphabetical and that what you have fits Sagarin, but I feel like it's weird to have Auburn in a tier with Texas A&M when TAMU beat them pretty solidly at Auburn plus has beaten 5 p5 teams instead of 2. Your thoughts, Auburn really that good?

Hopefully Indiana humbled them enough. Wisconsin is no slouch, but they also aren't worldbeaters. Definitely not as good as Oklahoma.

Auburn was fairly competitive with A&M for quite a lot of the game. Auburns 2 losses are high quality teams, and beat LSU. Mostly power rankings, but accomplishment wise, I'd have a different list, and Auburn would be quite a bit down compared to A&M.

I've been very underwhelmed with Tennessee, so I'm not valuing that win super high.

Agree that Louisville's right there. Inpredictible has Michigan as a slight favorite, Clemson/Washington as slight underdogs.

Is that not the cool way to say "5 teams from power 5 conferences?" UCLA plus 4 from SEC?

Tier 2: everybody else. On a neutral field I don't think anybody is < 7 pt. dogs to either of these 2. Louisville and maybe Clemson are the only teams that wouldn't be getting double-digit points. I watched Michigan play for the first time yesterday was not impressed. Looked like a slightly more athletic Stanford.

Auburn's power ranking should be higher than their resume ranking because Malzahn inexplicably devoted the offseason to some fantasy about a 3 QB system with a bunch of weird plays mixed in where the fullback takes the snap. He's since named White QB and given up play-calling duties to the OC and I feel like Auburn would be favored at home over A&M if they played tomorrow. It's a completely different team since Lashlee started calling the plays.
