I don't mean by you, but the media, polls, etc.

The ND thing was related to USC fans talking about all the "ranked" teams they beat. Well one of them just fell out of the rankings, so to all those hanging their hat on wins agaisnt ranked teams, then yes, ND is important.

Anyway, this will all get washed out.

And BTW, you attribute my ranking of USC to ND's loss. Not quite fair, as I have consistently pointed to three reasons for dropping USC. I have never said it was just the ND loss.
USC is 10th in the human polls and 11th in the computer polls. They are 9th in the predictor, 10th in the Massey ratings composite. There is really no basis for you to put them 15th, other than you have some irrational dislike of them.

I agree with you that the human polls having Oregon so far back is criminal, but that isn't USC's fault.

No, it's not USC's fault. But it is not USC who I am blaming. Call me irrational, but I have USC at 15 because I think that VT, Pitt, Houston... are better. Time will tell.

AK, the only ppl who think you are irrational are usc homers. LSU, Oregon, USC, tOSU in that order. it would be nice if it was possible to number those so that USC was in 10th, but it just cant be done, there are too many teams at the moment ahead of those 4.

Not really. Look at my OP in this thread. I have LSU and Oregon switched, but I have USC behind both of them and I still have them ranked #10. Other than Georgia Tech and the undefeateds, there aren't really that many elite teams in college football right now.

you dont exactly have to be elite to be ahead of USC and LSU atm. i guess if there was a gun to my head id put oregon at the front of those 4 and interject a few teams btwn them and USC/LSU, but neither of those teams are looking that solid. USC cant defend and LSU cant score.

There's no way Houston is better. They may deserve it for only having one loss, but better? Not a chance in hell.

Your so lucky the big 12 north sucks so bad. I'm a huge Nebraska fan but its pretty absurd that the winner of Nebraska/Kansas state is pretty much locked to play texas....
You guys should be demoted in the polls for that, haha.

If you're ranking based on resume, 15th is more than fair for Southern Cal.

Re: Oregon/LSU, I don't know who is better or should be ranked higher, and I don't know that it much matters right now, since if the SEC sends two to the BCS it's going to be UF and Bama unless something weird happens.

TC,

Can you explain something for me in your rankings? Looking at the Clemson/GT game, you have Clemson with the following stats:

Yds: 386
Plays: 68
Avg: 5.676

Score: 0.912
Adj Score: 0.857

For the GT defense that game it's

Score: 1.085
Adj Score: 1.060

Likewise, the GT offense:

Yards: 418
Plays: 64
Avg: 6.531

Score: 1.538
Adj Score: 1.555

And Clemson defense

Score: 1.073
Adj Score: 0.974

Why should these numbers that are 100% related be different?

Why should these numbers that are 100% related be different?

It's comparing to how that team normally does. It's entirely possible that teams get a great score for the same thing.

Example: Awesome Offense State averages 7.0 YPP on average. They play a game against Shutdown Defense Tech, which averages 2.0 YPP on defense.

In the game, Awesome Offense State gets 5.0 YPP. That's 2.5 times as much as Shutdown Defense Tech normally gives up, which is quite good. SDT also holds AOS to 71% of their normal output, so that's a good game for them too.

So basically what happened is Clemson put up way fewer yards than GT normally gives up, which is why their score is .912. But its even worse than that because GT has played some really crappy offenses, like Vanderbilt and UNC. So if GT actually played teams of average strength on offense, they would have a score of .857.

Now, on the other hand, Clemson is not exactly a crushing offense. So Ga Tech holding them to 5.676 is not really that good, since most teams did better than that. So they get a score of 1.085. It's actually not that bad since Clemson has played a lot of defensively strong teams, so doing worse than them is not quite as bad.

Then on the other side of the ball, GT put up a lot more yards than Clemson normally gives up, so that means that GT has a much better offense than what Clemson is used to playing. Then GT got fewer yards than normal, so that means Clemson's defense is better than GT's average opponents.

When two freight trains collide, it's going to make a big mess, but it doesn't mean that the trains were both nothing to mess with.

Looks like Christian Ponder is done for the season with a separated shoulder. Wonder if he goes pro after this year.

Reading that still doesn't look right. Two years ago he was Chris Rix 2.0. Its remarkable how much he improved this year.
