"good" in the sense that other logical candidates include SMU and Rice, although looking back thorough the seasons I guess DeAngelo Williams made me forget how bad Memphis has been over the last decade.

I mean if SMU went 6-6 this year, I think they'd be a frontrunner, but they were just so, so bad.

If the list of potentials is Boise, BYU, Houston, Tulsa, SMU, Rice, Cincy, Memphis (who I just randomly threw in there) how would you rank them in terms of football, basketball, university, distance and footprint? (I'll call "university" a combination of academics, relevance, fanbase, overall sports, endowment/wealth, etc.)

IMO:

Football:
1. Boise (though you could argue BYU)
2. BYU
3. Cincy
4. Houston
5. Rice?
6. Memphis?
7. SMU?
8. Tulsa?

Basketball:
1. Memphis?
2. Cincy?
3. BYU?
4. ???

University:
1. BYU - good school, huge fanbase (though very concentrated), travels well, never going to run out of money, but mormons
2. SMU? - SMU has lots of money and rich alumni and support, right? Good history prior to death penalty
3. Rice? - good school, but not really nationally relevant or known, small alumni base
4. I don't even know

Fanbase:
1. BYU
2. no idea

Distance:
1. Houston / Rice / SMU / Tulsa are right there
5. BYU / Memphis aren't far
7. Boise / Cincy are far as ****, although Cincy is close to WV at least

Footprint:
1. BYU adds Utah, SLC and Mormons
2. Boise adds Idaho (lol) and some nominal national cachet
3. Cincy / Memphis add... Cincinnati and Memphis, but the rest of those states are owned by tOSU and Tennessee
nobody else adds anything

TCU and Baylor got robbed big time. Both should have been in ahead of Ohio State.

Cincinnati adds its own state (Kentucky).

I assume that's a joke. I don't think the population of Covington adds much.

I'd reckon at this point Texas never wants to see BYU again in their lives so they're out.

Missouri/Nebraska is the obvious answer but since that'll never happen let's go with

SMU (revitalizing the old texas school rivalries, if SMU wasn't ungodly awful this year they'd have had a shot given they've been middling and had some bowl games for 5 or 6 seasons prior to that) basketball won't suck for a year at least anyway

other texas schools just aren't good enough so that leaves

Lville/cincy lville is preferred but cincy is available

Colorado State--hey it's better than actually getting colorado back.

this cupboard is bare, too many teams are good at not football things.

Boise should go to the PAC, one of the eastern places heads to the B12. Geography still matters damnit.

lol @ taking Mizzou/Nebraska. Those are the *********** who broke the Big 12 in the first place.

Pac would never take Boise and doesn't want/need more teams anyway.

Having perennial doormats is a great thing for your conference, beacause nobody notices or gives a ****, but it pumps up your good teams which is all anybody cares about.

SEC has Vandy and Kentucky who are bad every year, B1G has Purdue and Indiana and Illinois and Northwestern, ACC has Wake and until recently, Duke. Big-12 only has Iowa State, they could use another cupcake.
