Antrel Rolle-

With Rolle playing opposite to Patrick Peterson, we'll be able to have full press man coverage for our defense. Our corners are fairly big (PP being 6'1 and Rolle being 6'0). This will be important vs. many of the bigger, better receivers in this league. I'm really pleased with our defensive backfield right now (though, the lack of safeties could be an issue). we'll explain a bit more of our defense later on, but the basic concept will be a 4-3 man under front with 2 deep safeties.

Rolle will play CB for us (even though he plays some safety in the NFL), the same position as he did at Miami.

Quote:
Rolle was an All-American CB for the University of Miami where he especially excelled in press-coverage. Notable performances included shutting down future All-American receivers Larry Fitzgerald (3 catches for 26 yards) and Calvin Johnson (2 catches for 10 yards).

In 2001, his freshman season, Rolle was one of four true freshman to letter at Miami. He appeared in eight games, recording eight tackles and an interception. Rolle started 11 games as a sophomore in 2002, earning All-Big East first-team honors. Rolle totaled a career-high 66 tackles with two sacks, six tackles for a loss, seven pass deflections, and an interception for the season.

In 2003, as a junior, Rolle recorded 51 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, seven broken up passes, and two interceptions on the year. In his final season, 2004, Rolle was a consensus All-American. He recorded 58 tackles his senior year, 6.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, six pass deflections, and an interception. He was hurt late in the '04 season and missed the Virginia Tech game because of a foot sprain.

He was an 8th pick overall in the NFL draft and an all american 2004.

SLB Brian Cushing

"Cushing was on the 2007 preseason Phil Steele's All-America team and on the 2007 Bednarik Award and Lott Trophy watch lists.

Cushing returned a failed onside kick attempted by Notre Dame at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for a late fourth-quarter touchdown on November 25, 2006.

On January 1, 2007, Cushing was named the Defensive MVP of the Rose Bowl Game, after recording 2½ sacks and forcing a third-quarter fumble that changed the momentum of the game."

Dammit wish I would have entered this. My 2000-2005 obsession with the NCAA franchise on PS2 would have come in very handy. (I was such a f'ing loser I would manually enter most of the players names)

I am surprised Champ Glover, RB 2003 Texas A&M hasn't been taken yet. Whoops, that was a fictional player from my dynasty.

5-11 199 pound CB out of Michigan

Leon Hall

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
College career

Hall attended the University of Michigan, and played for the Michigan Wolverines football team. As a freshman, he played in all 13 of his team's games and made three starts. He finished the year with 26 tackles and three interceptions. Hall was a first-team All-American freshman.

In his sophomore season, Hall once again played all the Wolverines' games, making nine starts. Hall totaled 48 tackles, two interceptions, and recovered two fumbles.

In 2005, Hall started all 12 games on the Michigan schedule, registering 61 tackles, two sacks, four interceptions, a forced fumble, and one recovered fumble. He was named to the All-Big Ten Conference Second Team.

Hall started all 13 games as a senior in 2006. He intercepted three passes including one against the Notre Dame and another against the cross-state rival Michigan State. Hall led the Big Ten in pass breakups with 18, tying Michigan record set by undrafted in 2002, and recorded 35 tackles. Hall was a unanimous choice for the All-Big Ten Conference First Team and contended for a number of national awards. He was a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, and a quarterfinalist for the Lott Trophy. Hall also was first team AFCA All-American.

Hall is Michigan's all-time leader with 43 passes broken up. He is tied for fourth on Michigan's career interception list with 12, and set a school record with an 83-yard fumble return against Northwestern in 2005.

2007 NFL Draft

After posting an impressive 40 time of 4.38 seconds at the NFL Combine,
From a scouting report:

Quote:
Leon Hall is an excellent all-around cornerback who excels in zone coverage. He is very solid at man to man coverage and can hold his own against most receivers. He plays with an aggressive style and likes to be physical in press coverage at the line of scrimmage. Hall is considered fast, however he lacks the elite speed of some NFL corners which may create problems against deep speed routes downfield. He shows good quickness while changing directions with receivers, moving to the inside or outside while remaining in position to make a play on the ball. Hall can also be a factor in the running game and does not shy away from sliding inside against the run. His quickness also allows him to be effective coming off the edge on the blitz. Hall was a standout cornerback at Michigan and really came into his own during his junior season starting all 12 games and leading the team with four interceptions. He earned All-American honors his senior season and set a Wolverines' record with 43 passes defended in his career. Hall is a very talented cornerback with solid coverage skills and should be a top 15 pick on draft day.
Hall + Winfield + Berry give me a sick DB core to go along with a strong start to my front 7 (Suh + Ulracher + Kearse+ Richard Seymour).

Current Team:

Suh
Calvin Johnson
Urlacher
Blackmon
Winfield
Seymour
Kearse

Dominant Team selects

6-4 265 pound DE out of Florida

Jevon Kearse

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
Early years

Kearse was born in Fort Myers, Florida in 1976,[2] the son of Joseph Kearse and Lessie Mae Kearse.

Kearse attended North Fort Myers High School in North Fort Myers,[3] and he played high school football for the North Fort Myers Red Knights. He was over six feet tall and extremely agile, and added muscle without a loss of speed and agility. Kearse began attracting college recruiters under his coach Wade Hummel. He played strong safety and tight end, and in his first season in high school, he returned four kicks for touchdowns.

Following Kearse's senior season in 1994, he was honored as a prep All-American by USA Today. In addition to his demonstrated athletic ability on the playing field, he carried a 3.6 GPA and was a member in the National Honor Society.
[edit] College career

Starting college at 6 feet, 4 inches tall, and 215 pounds, Kearse was projected as either a linebacker or defensive back. He accepted an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he played for coach Steve Spurrier's Florida Gators football team from 1995 to 1998.[4] He began his college career at safety before shifting to outside linebacker in 1996.[5]

The Gators coaches red-shirted Kearse for the 1995 season, and he watched the Gators' run for the 1995 national championship from the sidelines, before they lost to Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Fiesta Bowl. Soon he was bestowed with his nickname, the "Freak", by Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponents during the Gators' 1996 season. In his debut game against Southwest Louisiana, he accounted for six solo tackles and a sack. That year, the Florida Gators would go on to win the national title, defeating Florida State University 52-20 in the 1997 Sugar Bowl. For his on-field accomplishments, Kearse would make the All-SEC Freshman team. His younger brother, Jermaine, was killed in a drive-by-shooting after the season.

Kearse made the All-SEC team in 1997 for the first time by registering a team high 6.5 sacks during the regular season as well as 38 tackles and 2 forced fumbles. In his 1998 campaign, he once again led the team with 7.5 sacks and also improved his tackles tally to 54. Was named All-SEC again and earned the AP SEC Defensive Player of the Year that season, as well as making the list of several different All-American teams, and was a finalist for the Butkus Award, Lombardi Award, and Chuck Bednarik college defensive player of the year award.

He opted to forgo his final season of eligibility, stating, "I think I've accomplished the four goals I wanted to when I attended the University of Florida: To become a better person, to win a national championship, to get an education and finally to have a chance to play in the NFL." [6]

For his career Kearse racked up 34.5 tackles for loss, ranking 11th on UF's all-time list. Finished his career with 145 total tackles, 16.5 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 1 interception, 1 recovered fumble, and 19 pass deflections.
Kearse gives me a sick pass rusher to go along with my sick interior. I'll of course add another solid 4-3 DE in the coming rounds. Kearse is super fast and in his first year in the pros won AFC DPOY.

Current team:

Suh
Calvin Johnson
Urlacher
Blackmon
Winfield
Seymour
Kearse

If you're going to take Leon Hall, it's important to note that he was a prominent member of the secondary that got lol raped by USC in the 2007 Rose Bow. A 3-2 game at halftime turned into a 32-18 laugher once USC realized that they couldn't run on Woodley and Co., but they definitely could throw all over that secondary with UNDRAFTED receiver going HAM on Hall for 11/205/2 TDs.

It's important to note because of how $ad it made me.

People over-react too much to individual games, especially in regards to college football IMO.

Hall was a good player in college. The Rose Bowl wasn't his best game, but it wasn't all his fault either.

Pretty sure it was Dwayne Jarrett and he's been drafted.

Agree with the "don't look TOO MUCH into one bad half" comment. Hall is what, the 12th corner drafted? He's fine at that spot. Everyone that's left has def had a bad half/game too.
